Andrew Jesse Van Evera, 44, died of injuries sustained in an accident while running on Saturday, January 23, 2016.

His life was filled with family, work, and play. Andy received a degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. He was a professional engineer with CH2M Hill in Spartanburg. He was predeceased by his father Jesse Rynier Van Evera. He was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

A Service of Remembrance will be Saturday, January 30, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Furman Buchanan officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Clements Farm, 563 E. Suber Rd., Greer, SC.

Becky,

I am so very sad to learn of Andy's passing. You two were so wonderful to foster my Jenny Craig...now Cocoa Bear, the female chocolate lab. I will be in touch. Know that I am so very thankful for knowing the two of you. Sending loving kindness meditations.

Andy was a great man, and truly a man in all that entails. I always wished I could have known him better and seen him more often, but I do know that he was a great cousin to me, father to his children, son to his parents, and husband to his wife. I looked up to Andy as one of my older cousins and knew that he cared for all of his family, both immediate and extended.

I am grateful that Andy made the trip all the way up from South Carolina to be there at my wedding, on a Tuesday, when there were plenty of good reasons he could have stayed down south. It turned out to be the last time I would see him in this life, but I look forward to that happy day when I will see him again.

Andy, may you rest in peace and may the spirit of God be with your family to comfort them.

I wanted to share a few words about my cousin, Andy. My earliest memories of family beyond my Mom and Dad were of my brothers and I going down to Uncle Jess's house and playing in the pool with my cousins, Bill and Andy. There was about a 15 year gap between me (the oldest son in my family) and Andy (the youngest son in Uncle Jess's family) but that never seemed to matter at all. We repeatedly jumped and pushed each other into the pool, brought increasingly large water guns every year, and we, the younger cousins, would often play chicken in the pool on the backs of Bill and Andy. And when they came up for thanksgiving, we'd usually goof off outside for a while, and I remember one year Andy helped us play a little soccer game up on the field.
As I grew up, he did too and got marriedthe first in my group of cousins. In this, I saw him become a responsible adult, husband and father. But amazingly enough, he was still fun to be around! He still had that distinctive Andy humor, where with just a few well chosen words, he'd usually sum up the situation perfectly and put a humorous spin on whatever was going on.
I've always looked up to Andy; he set a great example for his younger cousins. I hope that as I go into my career and someday start a family, I will be able to learn from the good example he has set. And when God calls me home, I look forward to seeing Andy again.

I am so very grateful for Andy's life. Andy and Becky fostered my rescue, Cocoa Bear (formerly "Jenny Craig"). Because of his and Becky's love, I have my soulmate. What a wonderful man, dad, and husband. My thoughts and prayers have been steady since the news. I will write you later Becky.

I met Andy right after he graduated from Clemson and started working at Lockwood Greene. We quickly became friends. We shared an apartment at East Carolina while working on a project there. We worked together for years in the Lockwood Greene/CH Spartanburg office. We traveled together on business trips and conferences all over the US. We had a tremendous amount of fun. I saw Andy transform from a young, eager college grad to a seasoned professional, a great husband and caring father. When he was younger I often gave him advice (whether he wanted it or not), but as he matured, it was me asking him for advice. I always enjoyed our verbal sparring and comraderie.

I moved to Richmond a number of years ago, but Andy and I still kept in touch, and would see each other from time to time. Our friendship remained strong.

I always thought he would be there my friend Dutch, bigger than life and yet, he still is. He will live in my heart, my thoughts, and memories for the rest of my life, and beyond. If you look up the word friend in my dictionary, you will see a picture of Andy smiling.

Becky, may God be with you and the children.

Time on this earth is but a blink of an eye. We never know when it will be time to leave.
Andy was an easy going and kind individual that many have had the pleasure of knowing. His level headiness and willingness to help others, his dry humor and way of diffusing a tense situation were part of his signature style. Andy was a great family man who found time to be active in his children's lives. He would often take time for his children on solo adventures to better bond with them. He was loyal to his family, both immediate and extended. He was willing to help a cousin primp up his resume, discuss career possibilities, and would attend most family gatherings. He was an ear to those who needed it and a cheerleader to motivate. His tender and gently character made him a delight to have in your presence.

. He leaves this world and saddens us all, but he left a legacy of love and wit. I will miss his mischievous smile as he would make a statement that left you laughing. We will all miss his loving support and charity that he provided freely to all with such ease. His children lose a great father who was always willing to be there for them, but he leaves them with unconditional love and loyality.his example will carry his family forward. His wife loses a companion who remained loyal, loving, and supportive, she will have their memories and their children and I feel sure Andy will be her guardian angel. We all lose this great individual who was always willing to share in life's events. As a brother, husband, and a son, he remained faithful and loving and lent his strength to those whenever they needed it. I know the shock of this passing is something that is difficult to grasp, but to recognize all that we gained from his presence in our lives makes it worth having him on this earth even for this short time. We will miss him, but know that he is probably deeply engaged in a conversation with his father, Jesse, and catching him up on all that he has missed sprinkled with his dry humor.

We miss our sweet nephew, Stephanie and Spike

It doesn't seem like that long agoAndy and I briefly worked together at Roy Rogers in Vienna Virginia (1987). I met him as he was sticking up for a coworker (I don't even remember what it was about, I just remember how fierce a friend)...and that's how he was. If you had a problem with his brother or his friends, you usually had a problem with Andy (which usually meant it was better not to have the problem). I always respected him for that.
Bill, his brother, is one of my closest friends, and it's through Bill that I later got to know Andy. I wasn't surprised when Andy pursued a career in engineering. I remember once showing up at the VanEvera's house to find Andy & Bill working on Andy's car. The whole top of the engine was off, there was an oily mess of valves and gaskets under the hood, and I thought to myself: That car is definitely done! Of course, I was wrong. He and Bill put it all back together (because that's what they did) and even now, it's hard for me to think about Andy driving anything other than that old red beater.
The last time I saw Andy was at his Brother's wedding, and it was good to have a chance to look back on good times and make a few more. Life has a way of getting in the way of living, and sometimes in the midst of it all, we lose track of time , direction, and the common threads that bind us together. Although I was never as close with Andy as I was his brother, I always liked him, and I'm going to miss him. 44 is much too soon

I cannot express how stunned and saddened I am by Andy's passing. I've had the privilege of knowing him through him being a client of mine for probably 15 years. I always looked forward to seeing him every 3-4 weeks when he came in to get his haircut. It was always fun to talk to him about sports, his training, family, and many other things. Andy was always kind and soft spoken. You could count on seeing him quietly at his desk pumping out work, or stretching his legs around the property. I remember how he always watched out for me on the yearly bike rides to the office in Spartanburg and how gracious he was for those of us not at his level of athleticism.

May the Lord in time give you peace, and the perseverance to live to the family values and principles that he modeled at home.

Words, nor any amount of tears, can express the sadness in our hearts for Becky, Kyler, Garrett and Drew.

I saw Andy just that morning, at the edge of our driveway, having fun in the snow and ice that had fallen the night before. Andy was chuckling while holding the remains of a plastic sled, showing it to my seven year-old son, and telling my son, he didn't think it was meant to support his (Andy's) weight, but he had fun trying anyway...

That image is now seared in my memory.

He was a pleasant neighbor and kind soul.

I met Andy several years ago on a job interview at CH2M-Hill. At the end of the interview, he asked me: How did you like working at Reston Hardware?

I hadn't made the connection of his last name with his Dad, Jesse, who I had worked for at one of his hardware stores in Northern Virginia back in the early 1990's. We laughed and remarked about what a small World it truly is.

I had only met him a handful of times at his Dad's stores but he remembered me after all those years.

My deepest and sincere sympathy to his family, friends and coworkers for your loss of your Husband, Dad, Son and Friend.

I met Andy in the early 2000's when he was working as an electrical engineer. I interviewed and wanted to hire him, but he had been with Lockwood Greene/CH2MHill for a long time plus Becky was having another child. A few years later when I started triathlons, he came up and reintroduced himself. He was an excellent triathlete and very inspirational. His wife Becky tried her best to improve my swimming, but still called me a non-swimmer. A good friend of his, Matt Drewello was a rugby player with Andy at Clemson. The list just goes on; I will miss seeing Andy.

Andy was the class of the classiest, the choicest of the choice a true brother, close friend, compatriot. Working on our Telecommunications & Security team at Lockwood Greene (now CH2M), first as an intern while single and still at Clemson, and then throughout the 1990's and later before coming a Project Manager, he was one of the finest and most dedicated young men I have ever known. He truly reveled and treasured in his family. He kept us all envious and proud to celebrate in his ongoing iron man events, marathons, marathons and rugby games with his family gleefully cheering him on and even participating on occasion. He will be truly missed, like a missing right arm, by all who knew him or ever came in contact with him, no matter in what capacity - a loving, joyous and proud father, dedicated husband, meticulous engineer, or as the ultimate self-motivated competitor.
Becky my wife Beth & I are praying outrageously for you & your kids that you will be overwhelmed by the love and comfort of friends, family, and the love and comfort of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We would be truly humbled, honored, and overjoyed if we can help in any way at any time and in any of the coming days.

My prayers are with his wife, children and family. May God comfort your family as only He can!

My thoughts and prayers reach out to the Van Evera family. I had the pleasure to work with Andy during the Lockwood Greene days. He was a pleasure to work with. We crossed paths again later in life with our children at Art camps. So sorry to learn to learn of the loss.
