ANGELO CARDELLA

“Loving father and grandfather”

Mr. Angelo Cardella, 91, passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on November 8, 2017 at Elim Park Rehabilitation Facility in Cheshire. He was the beloved widower of Theresa (Schiavone) Cardella.

Angelo was born on August 29,1926 in New Britain, son of the late Angelo and Rose (Firenze) Cardella. He graduated from Leavenworth High School. He received his Associates degree from Post College where he majored in Accounting and was well known for playing a ‘mean’ saxophone. Angelo, also proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II where he was a Sergeant stationed in Trinidad working as a medic assistant. Professionally, Angelo had a successful career as a Public Accountant and continued doing tax returns until one year ago. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

“Ang,” as he was known by his family and friends was a quiet, reserved, humble, gentle, and easygoing man. Although he cherished time with his family, being a devoted father and loving “Poppi” to his grandchildren, his greatest joy was being with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Theresa. They were truly the epitome of the ‘perfect soulmates’-they were each other’s best friend and were inseparable for 58 years. After meeting on a blind date and marrying a few years later, “Terry and Ang” together enjoyed years of traveling to various locations throughout the United States, especially loving Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. They adored such activities as attending musical plays and shows, viewing the latest and greatest movies, dancing and listening to their favorite ‘big band’ music, dining at the finest restaurants, playing countless setback card games, and watching the UCONN Women’s basketball games, just to name a few.

Angelo leaves behind a daughter, Claudia Richard and her husband, Ralph of Wolcott; a son, Craig Cardella of Columbus, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Maria Cardella of Tolland, a brother-in-law, Louis Schiavone, of West Hartford, a sister-in-law, Rosemary Schiavone of Cheshire, and four beloved grandchildren: Taylor and Jordan Richard; Joshua and Jeremey Cardella. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Neil Cardella, a brother, Salvatore Cardella, a sister-in-law Lena Cardella, a nephew, Richard Cardella, and a niece, Diane Cardella.

Arrangements: Funeral will be held Tuesday, 10:00 AM from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hour will be held Tuesday, 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
