1946 - 2019
Ann Banduhn, 72, of Phillipsburg, NJ, formerly of Belleville, IL, and Edwardsville, IL, passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, in St. Luke's Hospital, Warren in Phillipsburg.
Born May 9, 1946 in Mobile, AL, Ann was the daughter of the late Ralph Bertram Batchelor and Joy (Smith) Batchelor.
Ann grew up in down-state Illinois where she raised her family and later met her dearly loved husband Franz-Joachim "Joe" Banduhn, whom she married Dec. 20, 1985. After obtaining her GED certificate Ann went on to earn a BA in 1975 in mathematics with a minor in physics from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. She utilized her knowledge working at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis as a system engineer on CAD/CAM projects for the design and manufacture of aircraft components. She later joined Electronic Data Systems as a team leader and relocated to New Jersey where she eventually retired as an account manager.
Ann loved a good political debate and frequently prepared for such a debate by reading lengthy legislation. She headed a successful community effort to curb a property tax increase and was a Board Member of the Phillipsburg Urban Enterprise Zone. She also ran for a seat on the Phillipsburg Town Council.
She had many hobbies and collections and was known for her interest in Rosenthal Porcelain figurines (Germany). Ann authored an extensive catalog of these figurines, had it published, and sold to collectors worldwide.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Ralph and James Batchelor. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are three children, Judy Kupsky (nee Leiper) of Edwardsville, IL, Chris Leiper of Marietta, GA, and Cory Starkes of Las Vegas, NV; and six grandchildren, Jake, Evie, Adam, Will, Mike and Katie.
Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at 2 p.m. in Doyle-Devlin Funeral Home, Inc., 695 Corliss Ave, Phillipsburg, NJ. Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.devlinfh.com
