Angels spirited Anne Skrincosky to her heavenly home on June 26, two days after her 93rd birthday.
Anne was born Anna Louise Lazovi on June 24, 1925, in Seltzer. As a first generation American, Anne was born to John Lazovi and Mary Martinka Lazovi, both immigrants from Visolaje, Czechoslovakia.
Raised in the Slovak Catholic Church, Immaculate Conception Church, Saint Clair, Anne was dedicated to her faith. She often recounted to her family the 4-mile walking trek to celebrate Mass each Sunday. After attending Seltzer Grammar School and graduating from Pottsville Area High School in 1943, she attended Ford Business School. Anne started her accounting career at Elmer Johnson's in Mount Carbon as an account associate. It was here that the Johnson family opened a new chapter to her life; grooming her to be an independent working woman. In that era, most women were homemakers, but Anne remained in the business world until her retirement in June 1987.
In November 1947, Anne met the love of her life, Joseph Skrincosky. They were engaged in February 1949. On Nov. 23, 1950, Anne married Joseph, her lifelong partner, at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Saint Clair. They had been married 67 years upon her husband's passing on Feb. 22, 2018.
After her three children entered elementary school, Anne continued her career, working for Aetna Steel Corp., Fishbach (Inventory Control), The Detroiter, Schuylkill Haven (Purchasing Agent), Newport Modular Homes, Pine Grove (Accounting), and finishing her career at Hallmark Modular Homes in Hegins (Accounts payable). During her profession, she was sought out for her talent and strong work ethic. During all of the years of her employment, she never procured a driver's license and managed to obtain rides to and from her job sites; quite a feat, considering the Pennsylvania climate and road conditions. She was well known for her beehive hairdos and fashionable dress. However, after long hours at the office, Anne returned home to carry buckets of coal from the cellar to her kitchen coal stove. Starting a fire, stoking the coals and cooking dinner for her family. On weekends, she was busy using her wringer washer to do the laundry, hanging the clothes outside even in the most inclement weather. The hard labor as a full-time accountant and mother of three never phased her. She never complained but maintained a quiet grace about herself. She was efficient to a fault, her home was immaculate, and her children raised with love.
When her children entered St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic School, Anne became involved with the PTA and Young Married Women's Sodality. Anne imparted the love of Jesus and the Blessed Mother by her quiet example of selflessness.
Anne was a member of the Pottsville Business Professional Women's Club, of which she was the treasurer for two years. She maintained many friendships throughout her life with women in BPW.
Anne and her husband, Joseph, lived independently in their own home in Woodland Acres until they were 91 years old. In 2016, they pulled up their roots and moved to Chula Vista, Calif., to live with their daughter and her husband. It was there that they both enjoyed some much well-deserved rest. Anne was lovingly known as "Champagne Annie" to her family and friends. She always enjoyed a glass of the bubbly and loved to celebrate life's milestones: birthdays, weddings, Christenings, graduations, etc.
Anne was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bonita, Calif., and St. Joseph's Catholic Cathedral, San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, of 67 years; sisters, Mary Purcell, Margaret Pohoronezny and Helen Wentz; brothers, John Lazovi, Joseph Lazovi and Francis Lazovi; a grandson, Michael Skrincosky.
Anne is survived by her daughters, Beverly Clifford (Jack Clifford), and Sharon Mayer (Edward Mayer); son, John Joseph Skrincosky (Mary Ann Pfeiffenberger Skrincosky); grandchildren, Monica Broggi (Josh), Brian Dorsey (Aubree), Matthew Skrincosky, Philip Mayer (Claire), Nicole Jennings (Mason), Michele Richter (Brock), Eric Skrincosky (Amanda), Kenneth Mayer, and Luke Skrincosky; great-grandchildren, Chase Skrincosky, Carter Broggi, Paige Skrincosky, Juliette Mayer, Giada Broggi, Reese Jennings, Madison Richter, Margot Mayer, and Grady Richter; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by the Rev. Patrick Mulcahy at 10 a.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bonita, Calif. Burial at Miramar National Cemetery will be July 10. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Salvation Army in Anne's name at
