Anne B. (Smyrychynski) Tucker

South Portland, ME -

February 1, 1920 - September 19, 2019

Anne "Curly" Tucker, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and great-aunt passed peacefully at home on September 19, 2019 at the age of 99. She was born in Spring Valley, NY to Nicholas and Hoffee Smyrychynski, one of seven siblings. She attended local schools, and on April 9, 1939 married the love of her life, Leslie M. Tucker. Anne was devoted to her family and home and was known for cooking and hosting many family gatherings featuring traditional Ukrainian and American food. She attended the Brick Church with Les and her children Nicholas, William and Leslie.

Anne loved to keep busy and in her spare time she threw herself into knitting and sewing, cooking and preserving, and engaging in her children's school and extracurricular activities. She volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts and church activities. With husband Les she took Spanish lessons, bowled on a winning league team and traveled to visit her extended family and grandchildren.

Anne is predeceased by her parents, her husband (1976), and her sisters Helen Carlano and Chris Robbins; her brothers James, Michael, Alex and George Smyrychynski, along with sisters- and brothers-in-law. In 1953, Anne and Les lost their son Nicholas James to kidney disease, at age 13, an event they endured with grace and love.

Anne is survived by her son William (Bill) Tucker of Moscow, ID and her daughter Leslie (Lani) Ingraham of South Portland ME, with whom she lived during her final six years, as well as her beloved granddaughters Jennifer Horton and her husband Nick of Bath, ME and Ashley Doyle of Portland ME. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and sister-in-law Kalista Smyrychynski of Summerfield FL. Susan and Ted Ingraham, part of Anne's loving extended family, are among the bereaved as well.

In her typical no-nonsense style, Anne requested her cremains to be buried beside her husband and son with a simple graveside service, which will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday October 18, at the Brick Church Cemetery, 122 Brick Church Road in Spring Valley. An informal luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Suffern-Mahwah Hotel, 5 Executive Blvd, Suffern NY will follow the service. Because of health issues, Bill will not be able to attend the service or lunch, but he will be with us in spirit.
