Alexander Funeral Home - CHARLOTTE Obituary

Annie Geraldine Wells Clark of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on January 22, 2021. Born March 31, 1940, in Warsaw, NC, she was the daughter of the late Reverend Sumler V. Wells and Annie M.J. Wells.

She graduated in 1958 from West Charlotte High School and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Johnson C. Smith University. She taught elementary school for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system for many years before retiring. She was also the Master of Music for numerous churches.

She is survived by her husband Robert Clark; four daughters, Rita Gooding Hopkins (Kelvin Hopkins), Viveca Gooding, Raina Clark, and Torrie Clark; a sister, Stephine Wells; eight grandchildren, Nia Coples, Nneka Thomas (Marc Thomas), Rahsaan Coples, Deon’tay Clark (Climmecha Clark), Shanquella Lindsey, Joselyn Clark, Destinae Robinson, and Jairus Robinson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She loved her family, cooking and entertaining her friends. Her favorite pastimes were shopping wearing her 6” inch stilettos and jumping in her car to go wherever the wind would blow. I guess you could say no grass grew under her feet. She lived life to the fullest on her own terms. Everyone knew her as Nana or “Mrs. Gerri” and she will truly be missed.

Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Gerri was truly a sweetheart, she was our musician at UMBC. I am truly sorry for your loss, your family have my deepest sympathy. My God give your family Peace and Comfort your family with love.

I met Ms. Wells Clark a few months ago as she committed to be a sub for Thomasboro . Although I only knew her for a short time, it felt longer. We talked at work every morning and she would always ask about my son. She called me “baby” at work. Out last physical encounter was when I trained her on how to use zoom to administer a fluency assessment ! She was so excited and happy to navigate technology. Little did I know she was 81! Always smiling , dressed to the T, and inspiring others . The...

Aunt Geri always expressed genuine compassion, concern, and showed loved. I'm grateful to have shared and experienced memorable family gatherings with her.

It was a pleasure meeting Ms. Wells-Clark this year. Such a sweet spirited person who added a lot of sunshine during a dark time! She will be missed!

To my beloved Wells,

‘There are rare and special people
Who always give and give;
To them it’s nothing special,
It’s just how they choose to live.
They are never too busy,
No matter what the task;
They seem to think of everything before you even ask;
These people are quite special,
They’re rare and kind and few;
I’m thankful, though, that I found
One of them—that’s you...Wells?’

With much love, ❤
