Dr. Arthur Newell McCallum

I was just telling a story about me as a little girl about 10yrs old, busting my knee open jumping on the couch and my mom rushing me to the ER and me screaming "no I want Dr Mac!" It was at like 5pm and his office was just closing but he opened back up for me to sew my knee up. Dr Mac was an amazing pediatrician and I'm sorry to see he has passed. I hope his family takes some comfort in knowing he made a great impact on so many kids!

Dr Mac was my choice for my three children after we lost Dr Warner Leblanc. His smile and kindness was relentless and his patience was so ad mirable. My daughter who is now 44 was in the hospital after her tonsils and adenoids were removed. He came by at 11:00 PM on the day of her surgery to check on her. I was so surprised and grateful to see him that night. He was one of a kind. I know for sure he is smiling wearing his Angel ‘s wings up in heaven. We loved you dearly!

23 years ago today, I entrusted the first of my most precious children to Dr. Mac's care. His calm, easy manner helped me so much as a new mother. My son was 3 weeks early and weighed 4 lbs 6 oz. I probably brought him into the office more often than necessary, but my fears were never trivialized and he always made time for us. After we left Lafayette I always looked for another pediatrician like him....never found one. Dr. Mac was one of a kind.

A patient of Dr. McCallum's in the 70s and 80s, I remember him fondly. The smell of tobacco, old wood, and peppermint remain to me a reassuring sense memory of childhood - and of a wonderful doctor. He will be dearly missed.

Such a wonderful doctor, my children were treated by Dr McCallum. They loved his Western decorations at his office. He was so kind and thoughtful with kids. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Mac as he was known to all who knew him, was an extraordinary physician, and a very compassionate and loving person. He cared for my three sons, Chad, Ryan, and Aaron Comeaux. He can never be replaced in the hearts of his patients and their families, he was one of a kind. RIP Mac. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.

Dr. McCallum was my children's pediatrician and he was also my pediatrician. His calm, peace-filled bedside manner was healing in itself, but his practical approach to medicine and his obvious love for children kept me and my siblings and children happy and healthy. He and his staff were always very helpful and loving. May he rest peacefully in a cowboy's paradise.

My condolences to the family. Both my kids were his patients, they are now 44 and 38 yrs old. Dr Mac was kind, soft spoken and took his time with the kids. We love him. RIP Dr Mac.

Newell McCallum, a great guy who has been a good friend for many many years. We have all been blessed to have known him.
