Arthur Frank Thomas passed away suddenly on February 20, 2021. He was born in Shirley, Massachusetts on October 14, 1939 and was the son of S. Arthur and Cheslawa (Kasanowski) Thomas. He was educated in the parochial school of St. Anthony's Church in Shirley and was an altar server. Arthur graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1957 and attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

Arthur was employed for 32 years by Samson Ocean Systems of Shirley as Manager of Research and Development Testing Laboratory. He developed splices for braided rope lines for NASA, McDonnell-Douglas, the US Navy, and invented the Thomas Ligament Splice, the first prosthetic ligament for ACL repair in humans. He was a quality control engineer for 17 years with Rogers Foam Corporation, Somerville. Arthur was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Army, Military Intelligence branch and also served on the Shirley Finance Committee for three years.

Arthur's interests were automobiles, cinema and the Boston Bruins. He coached a junior hockey team and managed the Sons of Rest softball team. In retirement he followed F1 racing and took care of his vintage Jaguar.

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Teresa Ann Fava, and a beloved daughter, Ann Emily Thomas.

In consideration of Covid19 restrictions there will be no calling hours. The family has instead invited you to attend Arthur's funeral Mass with social distancing and mask recommendations, in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 84 Salem St, Fitchburg, on Wednesday February 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701,, 1-800-AHA-USA1.
