Not sure what to say?

Mrs. Allen was the head of the Bookmobile
Department....my mother Eleanor Whitman worked
for her for several years. I worked as a page
in the bookmobile Department when I was 14 and 15. I rode the city bus from Loy Norrix H.S.
after school during the week. My main job was
to move the books on a cart from upstairs in
the department down to the bookmobile on a
rolling cart. I wore a brown smock so that I
did not get my school clothes dirty from...

To all the Allen "kids" -- What a beautifully written tribute to your mom. It truly captured her spirit that I came to know and love working as a high school page at the EBL in the turbulent 1960's. She was a role model to many of us on the eastside, encouraging and supporting us to pursue our dreams. I was so happy to stay in touch with her over the years, last visiting with her in 2008 (picture attached). As Dan so eloquently wrote, she left her mark on us with her kindness and...

Kathy and family

All the lovely things said of your mom are so true. We remember your family as good and fun neighbors. It seems so long ago but so clear in my mind.
I remember your mom also as one of my favorite visitors as I worked at Meijers. She was kindness always and with a beautiful smile.
I know it is such a loss for all of you, but I truly believe she will always be near you. Sending our love, the Mero family.

Dear Kathy and Jim, What a wonderful life your Mom lived. She truly made it a marathon and not a race.. You have our deepest sympathy and we pray that ALL of your wonderful memories will see you through this sad parting.. no matter how old, we never want to let them go. Your friends, Dawn & Paul.

Fond memories of working at KPL bookmobile with Mrs. Allan as the supervisor.

Mrs. Allen was a Librarian at the East Branch Library when I worked there as a a 13-year old page, shelving and checking out books. She was a kind and gentle spirit, beloved by the patrons and all who knew her. And what a beautiful smile! I have been blessed in life to share her love of books and libraries, and more blessed to have known and worked with her as a young, impressionable teenager. She left her mark on me with her kindness and patience, as I am sure she did with others...

I remember Mrs. Allen very well. I was a smaller kid when I visited the old Eastmain Branch and a Library Assistant when I help moved the Branch into the Gayle Avenue 1st location in Eastwood. She loved books and it showed with the Summer Reading Programs. Condolences to all the people lives she touched and her family.

Mrs Allen will always be dear to my heart. She was a wonderful boss and a fantastic friend. Love you Mrs Allen.
I could never call her Barb. She will always be my Mrs Allen.

Working with Barbara at KPL was an absolute pleasure. Her family and community will miss her greatly. Sympathy and prayers to her family while Barbara enjoys her next adventure in Heavven.
