LaMonte Leo Rauch, age 83, of Forest Lake, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on February 17, 1942, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, LaMonte was the beloved son of Reinard and Angela Rauch. He grew up in a lively home alongside his three sisters—Patricia Horton, Ginger Barlow, and Jane Bau—who fondly remember his curiosity, tenacity, and quick wit from an early age.
A proud graduate of Harding High School, Class of 1960, LaMonte answered the call to serve his country shortly thereafter. He spent two years in Vietnam from 1964 to 1966 as part of the Air Cavalry Division, carrying out his duties with courage and honor.
Following his military service, LaMonte began a long and dedicated career with Northern States Power Company (now Xcel Energy), working in the Gas and Utility Department. For 35 years, his strong work ethic, reliability, and deep technical knowledge made him a respected and valued colleague. He retired in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and commitment.
Above all, LaMonte was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life, Mary Lea (Beavens), and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He was the proud father of Susan Kennedy and Scott Rauch, and a cherished grandfather to Brandon and Adam Kennedy. His family was the center of his world, and he found great joy in their achievements and companionship.
LaMonte had a remarkable passion for life beyond work and family. A true outdoorsman, he loved fishing and spent countless peaceful hours on the water. He had an unmatched talent for restoring anything with wheels—whether it was a classic car, a tractor, or a race vehicle. His prized car collection brought him not only joy but recognition, as he participated in and won numerous trophies at car shows, tractor pulls, and drag racing events. Known as a handyman extraordinaire, there was little LaMonte couldn’t fix or build. If he set his mind to it, he made it happen.
Those who knew LaMonte will remember his deep integrity, tireless work ethic, sense of humor, and generous spirit. He was a man who lived by his principles, who valued craftsmanship, and who was always ready to lend a hand—or a wrench.
A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
LaMonte's life was one of service, love, and dedication. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him
