Susan Joanne Bolt, 93, of Charlevoix, passed away September 26, 2025.She was born on April 16, 1932 in Cleveland Ohio. The daughter of Minor Collier and Margurite (Cersa) Collier. Sue graduated from Glenville High School in 1950, and attended the Cleveland Institute of Art graduating in 1955 with a double major in painting and sculpture. She married Russell Bolt in 1955 forming an artistic partnership that lasted over 67 years.
Early in her career she worked for the Detroit Free Press Sunday Magazine as an illustrator and feature writer. She exhibited her work at the Detroit Artist Market, and had many one person shows at the Rubiner Gallery. She attended Pewbic Pottery, Center for Creative Studies and taught at Wayne State University. In 1974 Sue and Russ Bolt established Grange Hall Print and Pottery Shop in Charlevoix Michigan which remains a working art studio managed by her family. Sue was an extremely gifted artist working in many medias. Her work has been represented both nationally and internally.
She is preceded in death by her husband Russ, her parents, two brothers, John and William, of Cleveland Ohio.
She is survived by her three children, Lori Bolt (Frank Hasseld) of East Jordan Michigan, Russell Bolt Jr. (Cindy Bolt) of Charlevoix, Michigan, Robert Bolt, of Charlevoix, Michigan.
Four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hasseld of Edinburgh Scotland, William Hasseld (Sydney Massey) of Boyne City, Michigan, Rusty Bolt of Charlevoix, Michigan, Margurite Bolt (James Hilbert) of Lafayette Indiana, one step-grandchild, Nathan Seals of Mancelona, Michigan, one great-grandchild, Charlotte Hasseld of Boyne City Michigan, three step-great-grandchildren, Landen, Emma, Liam Hilbert of Elk Rapids, Michigan.
A Celebration of her Life will take place on October 18, from 1-4 at 03734 Marion Center Road Bolt Grange Hall Studio Charlevoix, Michigan.
A private family graveside burial will take place at a later date.
In Lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made by check made payable to the Charlevoix Community Foundation with" Sue Bolt" on the memo line, this will support the Arts and Culture fund, Mail To: C3P-Arts and Culture Fund P.O. Box 718 East Jordan, Mi. 49727.
