JACKSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICE Obituary

Barbara Jean Edwards was born in Benton, MS on March 29, 1944 to the late Johnnie and Mary Ella Moorehead. Barbara graduated from Linwood High School in Benton, MS. As a child, Barbara confessed her life to Christ at New Hope Baptist Church in Benton, MS. Later she joined New Bethel A.M.E. Church in Jackson, MS, where she served faithfully until she was called home. At New Bethel, Barbara was a Stewardess, Missionary, Choir Member, and a fantastic Cook. She enjoyed watching people eat her delicious meals. After twenty-five years of service, she retired form the VA Hospital where she served in the Food Service Department.


Barbara was united in Holy Matrimony to Walter Edwards Jr., on September 22, 1964, and to this union one child was born.


Barbara will be truly missed by her daughter, with whom she had a special bond, Wylinda Washington (Lucius) “a very special son-in-law” of Madison, MS; three precious grandchildren, Latoria Washington of Madison, MS, Cory Washington of Helena, AR, and Christopher Washington of Raymond, MS; two sisters, Maggie Richardson of Cleveland, OH and Betty Moorehead of Yazoo City, MS; two brothers, Johnnie Lee Moorehead of Gainesville, FL and Mosie Moorehead (Mary Lee) of Yazoo City, MS; a special mother-in-law, Leora Edwards of Pickens, MS; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Mary Ella Moorehead; three sisters, Susie Littleton, Alma Younger, and Opal Moorehead; one brother, I.J. Moorhead.
