Once when I flew into Chicago Barbara invited me to her apartment and then out to dinner. The walls of her home sang with fabrics from her travels to India

My favorite memory of Barbara was the first summer of our brand new Book and Paper Center at the old Pakula Bldg. It was August and Marilyn Sward went on a badly needed vacation so Barbara took over to help us out. I found her one 90 degree day, sitting on the floor typing madly away on a portable typewriter ( this was before we had computers, desks or much else). Her skirt was pulled up around her hips, with a scarf around her head to catch the sweat and she looked like Anna Magnani in an...
