I just looked up Bob since Doc Emrik finished calling the Stanley Cup championship, and every time I watch Doc, I can't help but think of Bob. So am very sad to see his passing last year. I got my start in sportswriting in Fort Wayne and first met Bob in person at a high school hockey banquet. Such a gracious man - as soon as I introduced myself, he offered to make a seat for me at the head table with the other media being honored that night, but I declined, as I was attending, not as a media person, but as a personal guest of a hockey player and a family friend. I got to interview Bob on his 50th anniversary with the Fort Wayne Komets for a feature profile in the local publication. Again, he was very gracious and very giving of his time. He spoke fondly of Doc Emrik and the Fort Wayne Komets organization. Every year, I always remember his final words as we wrapped up that interview. He said to contact him again when he celebrated his 75th anniversary with the Komets, and we would do another story. As each year passed, I never doubted that if he was still around, he would definitely honor his word because he was that kind of man.

I never had a chance to meet Bob directly but I enjoyed listening to all of his broadcasts of Komet Hockey on 1190 wowo all the times I was able to listen from NW ohio. I did get to wave hi and he smiled back to 2/14/16 when the Ks played in Toledo vs the Walleye. I also really enjoyed the segment narrarted by Doc Emrick.

Bob touched so many people from all over the country and all walks of life. And he treated each and every person he met as the most important person he would talk to that day.
Always that wonderful smile and when he laughed, it was hard not to laugh along with him. He will be missed so very much.
Murph, Karin and the rest of the extended family, thank you for sharing this legend with us.

Having met Bob on several occasions, one of my favorite memories is when Ryan Taylor and I interviewed him back in 2002 for our book "50 Years of Komets Hockey." Ryan and I had set a time limit of one to two hours max for our book interviews which numbered close to 100 in all. However, with Bob, it was closer to three hours and counting of never ending stories. Ryan and I could have set there for another three hours. Bob will be missed. May he rest in peace.

Having college aged children of my own I only now realize the full impact Bob made on my life. Giving me my first opportunity to work in the WOWO Promtions department after I graduated college was my start. He was an amazing support, built up my marketable skills and when he knew it was "time"...encouraged me to "leave the nest"! He felt like family...as Im sure he did to so many lucky enough to have shared time with him. His love of his children and complete joy at his marriage to Murph are examples of such a life well lived! I feel blessed to have known such an amazing man! Prayers to all who feel this loss!

Mrs. Wallenstein, Kurt, Karin, David and your families,
May your grief be lessened by the wonderful memories of a wonderful man. For all the thousands of people that adored your father as the play by play guy of the Komets, I am so fortunate to have known him just as Wallys dad. Just one of the dads tying skates in the locker room when we were too young to tie our own skates. God bless you all.
Your friend,

I can remember the only radio station that my parents would listen to was WOWO, so therefore we would listen to Komet games with Bob Chase calling the game, even though no one in our family even understood hockey at that time. It wasn't until my mid 20's that I even got interested in hockey after talking to a former player and started going to games and listening to away games, it made more since listening to the games, when you now understood the game. Bob, you will be missed. RIP. And to the family, thanks for sharing your husband, father and granfather all these years. My thoughts and prayers are with you .God's Blessing to You and may the memories and stories that you share bring you comfort and peace.

It was such an honor meeting him, we were both waiting for the elevator after a Komet game, I held the door open for him, told the others inside "sorry folks, I hold the door for living legends" Bob turned around wondering who I was talking to, everyone cracked up laughing. Heaven must have needed an extra gentleman up there. Fort Wayne can never thank him enough. Thank you, Bob for your service to this country & to this city. Thoughts, prayers, & condolences to his family.

Bob Chase was one of a kind. I had the honor of working with him at Avilla Speedway and Baer Field Motorsports Park plus worked for him during the 1984-1985 Komet's season. He was a kind and gentle man and a legacy for the Komets and Motor Sports. Rest in peace, my friend. You will always be remembered as a great man.

My condolences go out to the Chase family and friends. I grew up in Auburn Indiana. As a family we would tune in to all the Komets games while at home and traveling. It was always an inspiration and honor to hear his voice. Listening to his passion to the team, sport, and the community, made anyone who listened in to his broadcast to only become more passionate as well. Moving to Indianapolis and listening to more games, made me respect him more and get me more excited to tune in while not there. After having season tickets for 8 years, and still being a diehard Komets fan, he always helped keep that link being a far. It was an honor to meet him on multiple occasions and be a part of the fan base that he contributed so much of his life to.
Rest in Peace Chaser.

Our deepest sympathies on the passing of Bob. What an amazing life he had. Last time we saw him was when he was being honored last January at the Coluseum and before that was at WOWO's 90th Birthday at Sweetwater. Just listening to him on stage at Sweetwater and him reminiscing about the good old days at the station you could tell he had so much more to tell if he could have. Afterwards when I went up to him he gave the best "fatherly" hug and said thanks for coming. Like a lot of us not only did we grow up listening to The Fab Four but also listening to him maybe at home or in our cars with the radio on and him calling the Komet play by play. Chris and I extend our love and prayers to Murph, his children grandchildren and all that loved him. Thank you for the memories and Godspeed Bob❤
