Bobby Duane Atkinson, 88, of Wind Ridge, passed away in WHS-Greene hospital, Waynesburg.
Born June 1, 1928, in Dallas, W.Va., he was a son of the late Alda Atkinson.
He was a student of Cameron High School and graduated in the Class of 1948. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. He was a hard and dedicated worker. Early in his career, he worked for Preston Oil Co. He was later employed as a sawyer at a Saw Mill in Jefferson.
He then drove truck for Overnight Transportation Trucking Co., where he worked until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he spent time with friends. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.
He is survived by two children, Rickey (Maria) Atkinson of West Finley and Ronnie Atkinson of Waynesburg; a brother, Joseph (Janice) Atkinson of Bladensburg, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kayla Atkinson, Rickey Atkinson, Jesse Atkinson, Robert Parson, Nancy Parson, Eric Huston and Jacob Huston and a great-granddaughter, Abigail Pearson.
Deceased, in addition to his mother, are his loving wife, Donnis Jean Atkinson, who passed away November 3, 2003, and a son, Donald Atkinson, who passed in infancy.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kesterson-Rush Funeral Home LLC., 3275 West Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, PA, 15359, 724-499-5181. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, in the funeral home with the Rev. Cynthia Deter, officiating. Interment will follow at Rosemont Cemetery.
