DeClue Funeral Home - Potosi Obituary

Bobby Lee Eye of Belgrade, Missouri departed this life on September 21, 2013 at the Washington County Memorial Hospital having reached the age of eighty five years, ten months and twenty three days. He was born on October 29, 1927 in Shirley, Missouri a son to the late Troy Russell Eye and Hattie (Johnson) Eye. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his foster parents William Maxwell and Anna (Johnson) Maxwell; two brothers Harold Norman Eye, Stanley "Teddy" Eye; niece Cindy Eye; father and mother in law Clyde Neely and Laura (Dickey) Neely; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. On May 21, 1945, Bobby was united in marriage to Norma Neely and they shared sixty eight years together. Bobby served in the United States Army from May 1946 – April 1947. Bobby was a graduate from Belgrade High School, Conway Baptist College in the divinities, Arkansas State University and Middle Tennessee State University in the sciences. He taught science at Lepanto High School, Lepanto, AR as a student teacher, Manila High School, Manila, AR for six years and Fox Junior High School, Arnold, Missouri for fourteen years. After leaving Belgrade in 1953, Bobby returned upon retirement and farmed for a number of years. After full retirement, he focused on genealogy and local history research. Bobby's favorite pastimes were reading and going to the coffee shop. He will be missed by family and all who knew him. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife of sixty eight years Norma Jean Eye of Belgrade; daughter Kathy Lawrence and husband Paul of Imperial; son Gary Lee Eye of Belgrade; two nieces Twila (Eye) Jarvis of Mineral Point, Regina (Eye) Schluetter of St. Louis; eight grandchildren Trey Lawrence and wife Darla, Chris Lawrence and wife Mandy, Sherry Bean and husband Eric, Sarah Powell and husband Mike, Jeremy Eye and wife Tracy, Josh Eye and wife Angie, Christina Johnson and husband, Christopher Eye, two step grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 2 PM at the DeClue Funeral Home with Rev. Jan Dillard officiating and Pastor Brad Bean assisting. Serving as pallbearers were Chris Lawrence, Trey Lawrence, Sherri Bean, Sarah Powell, Eric Bean and Mike Powell. Interment and final prayers were held at the Sunlight Cemetery. All arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the DeClue Family Funeral Home.
