It's been a few years now since Bonnie was lifted above us. I carry her with me and imagine her here on the high plateau in Mexico, smiling. Always smiling and loving.

Bonnie & I were freshmen in the same dorm, Barnard, at Ole Miss in 1961. She was memorable for her outgoing personality and willingness to share stories of her life before Ole Miss. Perhaps the proof of her impact is that I wondered, 62 years along, how darling Bonnie Barkerding was faring and knew to start any search in New Orleans. God bless Bonnie for her meaningful contributions to so many lives in Ohio and in New Orleans.

Bonnie loved our neighborhood, our quirky city, all things Mardi Gras and every dog she ever met. Heaven is welcoming the sweetest soul.

RIP Nola, my dear friend
My deepest condolences to Bonnie’s family, especially to Annie, Charlotte, Jamie, their spouses, and Nola's grandchildren, who were all still dealing with the grief of losing Tom. I am carrying you all in my heart. Bonnie’s spirit lives on in all of us who love her. No one else quite like Bonnie has ever walked this earth. She was compassionate, kind, generous, funny, whip-smart and exuberant. She loved life, her family and friends, creatures of every kind, and New Orleans, with all of its...

A great individual, with a huge heart and smile. I will never forget her "Hey, Al, how ya doin'?" greetings on the dog levee. Her love of animals, especially those in need or with issues, was wonderful. So glad our paths crossed.
