Brandon T. Lara Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 21, 2009.
As his Canyon High School classmates donned caps and gowns, Brandon Lara was in his helmet and fatigues. He was so eager to become a Marine that he finished his studies a semester before his May 2006 graduation. "He had long waited for his 18th birthday so he could join," said his father, Jacob Lara Jr. "When his classmates were walking the stage, Brandon was serving his first tour." And he volunteered for his second. Brandon Lara, 20, of New Braunfels, Texas, died July 19 in Iraq while supporting combat operations in Anbar province. He was assigned to Camp Pendleton and scheduled to be home in October, in time for his birthday. "Ever since I can remember, he knew exactly what he wanted to do," his stepmother Gloria Lara said. "He''s always wanted to be military. Since he was little, he was into guns and swords and knives." She said they communicated constantly on the MySpace social networking Web site. During their last phone conversation, she said, he told her he was thinking of home. Brandon Lara also is survived by his mother, Shannon Martin; his brother, Jonathon Lara; and his sisters, Victoria and Rebecca Lara and Stormi McCandless.

I still remember the first time he came into my office to become a United States Marine. I saw the dedication, drive and commitment so rarely seen in a young man his age. The personal hurdles he overcame to reach his goals was commendable. I also remember that morning when I got the call to tell me he had passed away. His family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

I am a U.S. Marine. While my time active, was LONG before your son (1992-1996) I had a memorial dog tag made in his honor, as he's my brother, and SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN... I wanted to extend my condolences, and let you know, HE IS NOT FORGOTTEN, and his memory is kept alive with me. Attached is a photo of the tag, and I can't begin to understand your family's sacrifice. God bless you, America, and the United States Marine Corps.

To Brandon's family. You may not know this, but TSA names their K9's after the victims of 9/11 and all military victims. I have a male dog named Zaccoli after Joe Zaccoli who died in one of the towers.
My female is named Lara after Brandon.
It's an honor to have these pups with such honorable names.
Z is 5 and Lara is 4. They didn't make the TSA programs so we got to adopt them. They live a very happy and secure life with my family.
Prayers to all of you.

My son spoke of "the boy from Texas" I never knew his name or what happened until my son Cpl Jordie Kidd passed on 8/23/2011. Jordie served in Iraq and was there the day Brandon passed. Sgt Curtis Evans told me who Brandon was and what happened. Jordie suffered from PTSD, depression, and several other DX's. Some wounds you can't see. I just want the family of Brandon Lara to know that Jordie loved your son and never forgot him. God Bless

Thinking about you is one of the most difficult things to do. I can't help but cry when I think about how my brother got taken away from me. I love you so much and I wish you were here here with me right now. You were the most amazing person I had ever met and I don't think there was anyone who didn't love you from the time they met you. I miss you Brandon.

Brandon, I was looking through my High School yearbook last night. 'I love you like a sister...,' you wrote. I started to reminisce. I looked you up and found your not with us anymore. How very sad I was and feel bad I didn't know you more, but I am glad I got to know you. What an awesome person. Love you

Brandon,
I want to thank you deeply for watching my back in the days before your death. I also enjoyed very much talking about our native "Texas" at length. I think of you often and of those talks. Since I am back in Texas next time I go to the New Branfels area I plan on visiting with some of your family. Gone but not forgotten. You are truly missed. Semper Fi Devildog!

Brandon,
I'm sitting here in ISS thinking about you. Knowing that alive or dead you would want me doing the right thing. Clearly I have not succeeding that mission for the simple fact that I am in ISS. I don't know what made me think about you, but somehow it just kinda happened. Silent tears are falling from my eyes in hopes that no one will notice that I am crying. I miss my brother, &&even though I hadn't spoken to you in awhile I still loved you. I never stopped thinking about you or about how you were probably the best brother in the world but I couldn't see it. You are truly my hero. I couldn't have asked for a better role model in my life than my own brother. Semper Fi, &&I love you.

I miss you and love you Brandon. The first day we met, you were standing at parade rest calling me Corporal. The last day we saw each other we were drinking beers and you were calling me John John. You were truthfully like a little brother to me. It was an honor and a privilege to serve with you, it was an honor and a privilege to have you in my squad, but most of all it was an honor and a privilege to know that you were part of my life and a part of my family. From working out to acting a fool on the speed bag we were always buddies. The day I was BN OOD (Battalion Officer of the Day) you joined our fellow brothers at Heavens gate. I was the 2nd person to touch and see your casualty report, I couldn't believe my eyes. I, for the first time in my life was in shock. I couldn't believe my little hard charger was gone. That crushed me big time Brandon... I will never forget that day and I will never forget you... I love you little bro...

To Brandon an Family,

Every year we dedicate our fallen heroes on a motorcycle rally. Its called the Freedom Run of Illinois. There's over 5,000 bikers that attend. When you sign in they give you a dog tag with a name of a fallen hero. I think you know where this is going now. I was given your sons tag. Mareiles, IL is the end of the rally it is also where the Middle East Conflicts Wall Memorial is. www.ilfreedomrun.org I was able to find Brandon's named inscribed in the marble an took pics. I have attached them to this entry. I was hoping that someone can contact his family so I can share all the pics and more information about the rally. I am also a former Marine so it was very fitting to receive his tag. Semper Fi Devil Dog..R.I.P Brother

To the family of Brandon our sympathy and prayers go to you. Heroes and their families should never be forgotten for without them we would not have the freedom we have. My name is Betty Nielsen the founder of Freedom Quilts a non profit organization that makes quilts to honor our heroes and give them to the parents of our heroes that have died. It would be the greatest honor to design and make a quilt to honor your son. I design each quilt with honor and respect to our fallen soldiers and respect for the family. I take pictures that you send and put them on the quilt along with their hobbies and sports and anything else that you wish on the quilt. The quilt is a gift from us to you it is my way of honoring this wonderful young man and his family. If you would like to contact us to receive a quilt then here is my email [email protected] and my website is www.freedomquilts.net I start this project after 9-11 and now over 8 years I have continue it for our fallen soldiers families. Again I would be more then honor to do this for you. Your son gave it his all I want to give to his family by honoring his memory in a quilt.

"I am the resurrection and the life. Those who beleive in me even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and beleives in me will never die." John 11:25-26

I was so blessed to have had Brandon in my life. I fell in love with this little boy the day I layed my eyes on him. Even though he was not my biological son. I loved him like my own. There was nothing I would not do for him, and he knew that!! I am going to miss everything about him. His light, his smile showing his big dimple, his attitude,his jokes!! Everything about him was awsome. He is gone, but he will never be forgotten. He lives in my heart forever. It broke my heart to lose him, but he did not go alone; for part of me went with him the day God called on him. He left me peaceful memories. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

Brandon,
I will see you someday again. I wait for the day when Jesus Christ comes for his people. When we join together in the sky to meet our Lord and Savior. May God be with you till we meet again !U will forever live in my HEART !I love You & Miss you so Much!

Love,
Gloria

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Our prayers and sympathy for the loss of Your American Hero. My son is also a Marine currently on tour. Even though we did not have the privilege of knowing your son, we prayed together over the phone for your family when he called home last week. The loss of your son was weighing heavily on my son's heart. God Bless Each of You. Mother of a Marine.
