My love and thoughts to all Brendan's family. Brendan was my dads roommate at Princeton and they remained life long friends. Dad is gone,now Brendan as well. Two of the classiest kindest smartest men I've ever known. He will be missed.

Brendan Byrne was a true blessing and my hero during the first day of the Newark Riots. I worked in the Personnel Department of the Hall of Records, down the hall from his office. As a student, summer employee, I actually went to work on that Friday. I was the only one in my department, as he was the only one in his. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

When my father died, I wanted to eulogize him but I was too broken up to do it. Then the funeral home director pulled my sister and me aside. He said the the governor, Byrne, was requesting to land his helicopter at the funeral home and attend my father' s funeral. He did. I was the chief of the star-ledger's statehouse bureau, which wrote stories not always flattering to the governor. Still he held no grudge and paid honor to my carpenter father I never forgot and will never forget. Byrne...

Your Dad was the first Governor that I was old enough to vote for. Absentee ballot while serving in the Air Force. A wonderful example of a great human being. We will all see him again one day. Rest in peace.
