Bryan Rushing Obituary

Bryan S. Rushing passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, from heart failure at the age of 53. The list of those that would call him a friend is staggering. His gifts for witty, offbeat humor, storytelling, and his encyclopedic memory served him well while he was holding court at Baton Rouge's sports bars and eateries. Everyone got a different version of Bryan, but they were all warm, charming, and (most of all) entertaining. He was many things to many people, but the one thing he wasn't was ordinary. Sports were both a passion and a profession for Bryan throughout his entire life. While attending LSU, Bryan was a staple on KLSU and a sports editor for The Reveille. He became a forerunner in the Baton Rouge sports talk radio scene, while hosting his own morning show on WIBR. Whether on the radio or working in the family business, his intelligence, charisma, tact, and boomingly baritone voice were all distinctive. He was a proud graduate of both Catholic High and LSU. Bryan's greatest joy was being a father to his children, Bryce (21), Taylor (20), and Ethan (16). In addition to being an adoring father, he was a thoughtful brother and loving son. He is survived by his mother, Brenda, and brothers and their wives, Michael and Angelo, and David and Stacy, who will always hold him in their hearts. His father Daryl preceded him in death. Both a private service for the family and a gathering of his friends and colleagues were held in his honor. As in life, Bryan continues to give to others by becoming an organ and tissue donor. He would encourage others to consider a donation to Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (www.lopa.org).

Bryan,
I have so many great memories of our time together in college and of the past few years when we reconnected. You will always have a special place in my heart. You truly were "one of a kind" and will not be forgotten. Rest In Peace.

First let me say how truly shocked and saddened I was by the news of Bryan's passing. Bryan was very special to my family as he was a dear friend to my brother, Brian and was instrumental in making my brother's life better after his accident by helping with many fundraisers for him. Bryan was truly one of a kind and very special. And like the obituary said he had such a beautiful voice and I can hear it as I type this. Bryan had a larger than life personality and I will never forget him and his kind spirit. Rest In Peace, Bryan and I know you and my brother are cutting up and talking LSU sports like y'all always did. For Bryan's family please know y'all are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless!

RIP BRYAN, than you for being a pioneer in BR sports talk radio. Those were the golden days IMO. Tigerdropping will miss you and you will live forever in the hearts and minds of posters there. You have made the Hall Of Fame and earned a spot next to some TD greats like Unknown, Sparkafatty, Picc and a few others. You sir are the king of that hall.

Although it has been a while since I have seen Bryan, he was my friend. The words you have written are so true. I can hear his voice and laugh clearly in my head as I write this. My prayers to his family for comfort and strength during this difficult time. Sending big hugs especially to his boys.
