Candace Dee Brotherton was born on February 17, 1957 in Creston, Iowa to Dale and Carolyn (Lauer) Dillenburg.  She passed away on August 15, 2025, after good weeks at home, visiting with family and friends.

Candi attended Creston High School, Southwestern Community College, and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.  She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Candi worked at the Douglas County Youth Center in Omaha, Nebraska and Green Valley Area Education Agency in Creston.  She was active with home-daycare, volunteering at schools, and keeping up with athletic and band events.  She enjoyed free time, after moving, with Tom, to Emmetsburg, Iowa.

The most important things in her life were family, friends, and antiquing.  Candi greatly enjoyed looking for unique items and bargains.  Her interests included travel, international food, and sweepstakes.  Candi’s humor was appreciated by many and her passion for life enriched others.

Candi is survived by her husband Tom, son Nathan, mother Carolyn, sister Shari Eivins, brother Jeff, in-laws Kathy and Doug Rice, Jeff and Gretchen Brotherton, nieces and nephews, numerous uncles and aunts, many cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Dale, and a brother-in-law, Gail Eivins.

Not sure what to say?

I am so sorry to hear this. I remember her wonderful smile.

Candi brought so much wit to every occasion! We'd laugh and then she'd laugh and everyone felt better. Our annual Christmas progressive dinner in Emmetsburg was always brighter with her there. The year she hosted us was especially memorable with her luminaries.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Tom, and Nathan, and all of your family. We are so sorry.

In loving memory of a wonderful person. We will love you and miss you always. Your wicked sense of humor and your laugh is a treasured memory.

A great member of the Class of 75, our prayers are with you.

My condolences to Tom, Nathan, Sheri and Aunt Carolyn; and the rest of Candi's family and friends. I will miss my cousin very much. We spent lots of time together growing up. Sitting next to each other at every assembly through school laughing through most. We connected readily whenever we saw each other; like no time had passed. I see many comments here about her laugh; it's what I think of when I think of her also! Rest in peace, Candi.

Tom and Family, Our deepest condolences and sympathies to you. Jody and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayer during your time of sorrow.

So sorry to see this notification. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Tom and family, my deepest sympathy to you during this time.

Tom, Nathan and extended families, my heartfelt condolences on your loss! Although Candi and I lost touch, I still treasured her friendship beginning in high school and continuing during the years the Brothertons lived in Creston. What I loved the most was her laugh and sense of humor and enjoyed long talks at her and Tom’s home on Townline when I was visiting Creston. Candi will truly be missed!
