Carl Alonzo Coit Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 5, 2013.
Carl Alonzo Coit was born in Deming, New Mexico, on March 31, 1928. He came to California in 1938 with his mother, sister, and brother after the death of his father (also named Carl Alonzo Coit) . He died in Spring Valley, CA on Tuesday, Sept 3, 2013 at 12:40 p.m.
Carl was a carpenter in heavy construction for many years and worked on various buildings around San Diego County including the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Southwestern College, San Diego State University, and the Bahia.
On August 30, 1957 he married Hilda June Lawton and they began their life together - a marriage that lasted 56 years. They had 3 children –Lynne Laureva (Schantzen) in 1959, Brian Carl in 1960, and Roy Matthew in 1963.
Due to disability he retired from carpentry in 1970 and later went on to work as a foreman in a sheltered workshop for United Cerebral Palsy. The clients there all loved him for his patience, calmness, and ingenuity. He retired again in 1994. In 1992 he came near death from colon cancer and the surgery that cured it. In 2002 or thereabouts he had open heart surgery to replace a mitral valve. He battled various ailments over the next few years but never gave up never felt sorry for himself. His faith in God sustained and strengthened him for every day of his last years. He finally succumbed to the years and to Parkinson's disease and died peacefully at home on September 3, 2013, with his family around him.
