Carl Marino

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Marino. I had the privilege of playing on his first two Westhill teams as well as having him for a teacher. Coach was a fine leader who always preached class and sportsmanship as well as the will to win. He was also a great player in his own right. I know he had a positive influence on me. To any hockey player or fan who reads this, if there was a Lady Byng trophy given out for a life, Dr. Carl Marino's name would be engraved on it.

I had Dr. Marino for American History and Russian History at Stamford High from 1968-1970. He inspired me to go beyond names and dates and analyze the people and their ideas. Senior year I did an independent study in Russian History with Dr. Marino as my adviser. When I read the paper today, all 180 pages of it, I am proud of how it turned out. Dr. Marino was the first Westhill High School Varsity Hockey Coach in 1973 and I had the distinct privledge of playing for him in all 4 of these first years. He taught me many valuable lessons on how to be a gentleman AND a fierce competitor that have served me well in my adult years. I am hopeful that the memory of the many lives he touched throughout his years of service to the Stamford student community will be a source of joy for his entire family in this time of great loss. Dr. Marino was an outstanding teacher and a fine man. I was fortunate to study both American and Russian History with him at Stamford High in 1965-67. He was one of those very special teachers who makes a lasting impact on his students. I send my deepest condolences to his family. He lives on in the memory of those he touched. I am honored to be one of those he touched.

Carl was, at one and the same time, a mentor to me as a young teacher in the early "70's, a colleague, and a friend. His love of history and breadth of knowledge was vast and his ability to transmit it to his students and colleagues was remarkable.
He made the world a better place and impacted, for the better, all those who studied with him.
I shall miss him.

I was fortunate enough to have Dr. (Mr. at the time) Marino for both American and Russian History at Stamford High School. He was without a doubt the finest teacher I had in high school and equaled many that I had in college. In addition, he was a fine, generous and caring individual. I am thankful to him for helping me achieve whatever success I have in life. RIP, and thanks.

He was my high school history teacher. A brilliant man. May he rest in peace.

A true gentleman, a wonderful teacher and great hockey coach. My Dad and I use to watch him play for the Home Oilers on Saturday nights and we marveled at his skill and determination on the ice. As great a hockey player as he was, he was an even better teacher. His ability to motivate and inspire us to expend our horizons is something I am grateful for. My sympathy to his family and friend. When I put my gear on tomorrow night for my hockey game I'm going to score one for Coach Marino.
