Carol A. Voorhees

Carol A. Voorhees, 81, of Pen Argyl, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 28, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus. She and her devoted husband, Dennis C. Voorhees, celebrated 61 years of marriage on March 7, 2025—a love story that began at a bowling alley, where they met, fell in love, and married just four months later.

Born January 1, 1944, in Blossburg, PA, Carol was the daughter of the late Jay and Irene (Buckingham) Low. She grew up on a farm surrounded by her eight brothers and sisters, where she learned the values of hard work, family, and resilience—qualities that shaped her entire life. A graduate of Oswego Valley High School, Carol was honored as May Queen, a reflection of her warmth and grace that continued throughout her life.

Carol worked as a seamstress for various garment mills in the Slate Belt Area before retiring. For 61 years, she was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pen Argyl and an active member of UNITE (garment union). Her life was defined by love—love for her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her extended family. She found joy in simple pleasures: baking, tending to flowers, visiting the beach, and
hosting family gatherings. Holidays were her favorite because they brought everyone together. No one ever left her home without dessert, and summers were filled with laughter as grandchildren swam in Grandma and Pop Pop’s pool, followed by ice cream treats.

Carol was the heart of her family—the glue that held everyone together. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion created a legacy of love that will live on in those she cherished.

She is survived by her husband Dennis; son Timothy D. Voorhees and his wife Susan of Mt. Bethel; daughters Lisa I. Matyas and her husband Mark of Plainfield Township, and Dawn M. Sandt and her husband Fred of Bethlehem; seven grandchildren—Kelsey, Jacob, and Jarrett Voorhees; Benjamin, Alexander, and Aiden Matyas; and Gavin Sandt; two sisters, Pearl Faulkner and Ethel Phillips; two brothers, Don and Gene Low; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Bollinger, and three brothers, Ray, Jim, and Earl Low.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, 404 E. Mountain Avenue, Pen Argyl. Viewing hours will begin at 9:30 AM until 10:45 AM at the church. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Pen Argyl. Arrangements are under the care of Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, Pen Argyl.
