I knew Carroll best as a newspaper publisher, working with him in Western Kentucky Press Association and the Kentucky Press Association.
When he was with Kentucky government and I was going to Solomon Islands as a Peace Corps Volunteer he took the time and effort to get me a box of Kentucky lapel pins to give to the local people as a gift from the commonwealth.
