Cecil Edward Banks, Sr., 63, of Bryan, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Gibbons Creek in Grimes County. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, November 6, at Jones-Washington Mortuary in Bryan. Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, November 7, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in College Station.

Cecil was born on April 18, 1946, in Wellborn, Texas, to Charles Aubrey Banks Sr. and Lola Smith Banks. He became a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age and graduated from Lincoln High School in College Station in 1964. He attended Texas A&M University and Houston Community College and later served his country in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1972.

Cecil met and married the love of his life, Elaine Thompson on January 12, 1973. He was blessed with two sons, Cecil and Jason Banks. Cecil was active in the community and their church. He was a member of the ASA Umpire Softball Association and retired from Texas A&M Department of Health and Kinesiology in 2003. Cecil enjoyed fishing but most of all, he enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his smile, his warmth and his loyalty to family and friends. He will be deeply missed. Cecil was ordained as a Deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on January 26, 2002 and was truly a dedicated servant for the Lord until he was called home to his eternal rest.

He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, Andrew and Calvin Banks.

He leaves a vision of his lovely smile and warm thoughts in the hearts of his wife of 36 years, Elaine Banks; his two sons and daughters-in-law, Cecil Banks Jr., and wife, Tashanée, of Bryan, Jason Banks and wife, Jamie, of Conroe; five grandchildren, Cecil "Trey" Banks III, Ceni Banks, and Cymone Banks, all of Bryan, Jason Banks, Jr. and Candace Sims, of Conroe; a sister, Katheryn Banks Browder; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles A. Banks Jr., Edgar Banks and wife, Jean, Carnell Banks Sr., and Shirley Brantley; and three special friends, Robert Earl Lockett, Robert "Rob" Smith, and Robert Jost; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To The Family of Cecil Banks,
I was privileged to serve with Cecil at Fort Riley, Kansas and in Viet Nam. I'm glad that I was able to visit with him at our reunion in Las Vegas in October 2007. Cecil was an outstanding soldier and a great American. My prayers and condolences are with your family.

Elaine,
I cannot even imagine the loss you and your family are feeling right now, but take comfort in knowing Jesus is on His throne and you and Cecil will be reunited one day. We love you and miss you here at work. You know all you have to do is ask, and we'll all be here for you - whatever you need.

Our Deepest Sympathy,

Deloris Jo Williams
Vicki Weaver

Elaine,
Shelby and I are glad we got to spend some time together at the reunion, it's too bad it took 40 years to reunite with someone that I was so close to.
Our condolences are with you and your family.
