A. L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, Inc. - Fredericksburg Obituary

Charles Jones, Sr. was born on June 26, 1948 in Nash County, NC to the late Courtney Lewis and Mamie Wiggins Jones.

After the family relocated to DC in the late 1950s, Charles worked in several trades until he found his passion in trucking. After driving for Embassy Dairy in Waldorf, MD for 8 years, he transferred to Southland, now known as McLane Distribution, in Fredericksburg, VA in 1989. In 1994 Charles started his own trucking business, KTS Trucking, and began hauling for Great Wide in Front Royal, VA where he later retired. Charles had an illustrious 38-year career and he took great pride in logging over 3 Million safe miles driven.

Charles will be fondly remembered as the life of the party. He was always the center of attention everywhere he went, and his infectious personality was sure to draw a large crowd. Charles was affectionately known as “The Human Map”; if you were lost anywhere on the East Coast from Florida to New York, he could guide you back to the main highway with just a simple phone call. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hanging out with his friends and talking sh*t!

Charles was a lifelong sports fan, and enjoyed the “friendly” rivalries! Whether it was between his precious LA Dodgers and daughter Tasha and late brother John’s Washington Nationals, or between his and daughter Sherdina’s beloved Washington Redskins and his son Charles Jr and son-in-law Russell’s Dallas Cowboys, it was all in good fun and created many memorable family moments.

Charles is proceeded in death by his parents; brothers James Jones, Robert Jones, William “Tom” Jones, David Jones and John Jones; sister Lillie Dunston; and beloved dog and best friend Ricco.

Charles leaves to cherish his memory, son Charles Jones, Jr. (Tasha) of Eatonton, GA; daughters, Tasha Nicholson (Russell) of Fredericksburg, VA, Sherdina Jones of Charlotte, NC and Jasmine Jones (John) of Richmond, VA; brother, Arthur Jones of Lanham, MD; sister, Lillian Dudley of Rocky Mt, VA; eight grandchildren, Ashley Jones, Tonya Jones, Christopher Robinson, Courtney Gibbs, Charles Jones III, Cierra Jones, Tobias Jones and Charlee Baldwin; two great-grandchildren, Adonis Lamar and Wynnter-Joy Martin; bonus daughter, Rashida Hooker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A viewing will be held at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. The interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Not sure what to say?

Rest easy Uncle Charles

My dad, older sister and I would attend our District Convention in the summer in Virginia for years and on the way back we would stop in Fredericksburg to see Charlie and spend time with him and Tasha and play video games. He was always so nice and cracked jokes sometimes. I always looked forward to seeing him and Tasha for a couple hours on our way back to Maryland. My dad recently informed me of his passing. He will be missed for sure. My prayers and condolences to the family

Wonderful man. It was a delight to be in his presence. Rest easy my friend

GOD REST YOUR SOUL MY FRIEND

Charlie was best friends with my brother Ernest. They both drove trucks. We enjoyed several good times together, playing cards and basketball. May he rest in peace. His family has my deepest condolences.

Condolences to the family

To Jones family I would like to extend my sincere heart felt condolences. I worked with Charles at Southland and McClane. Over the years we bonded into a great friendship we both loved the Washington Redskins. He was a great friend and truly will be missed. I remember when I first started driving he was always there to lend his help and knowledge I'm truly grateful to have such a friend as him . Family hold tight to your memories as will I and he will always be with us. I pray that God will...

You will be truly missed, it's not goodbye but see you later
