Charles ?Ed? Weatherford, Sr. passed away on April 30, 2014, at the age of 84, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. A retired Air Force Non Commissioned Officer and postal worker, Ed resided in Longwood, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Neva Weatherford, also of Longwood, Florida; his brother, Allen Weatherford of Rock Hill, South Carolina; and his three sons, Ed Weatherford Jr. (Lorna) of Port St. John FL, Dennis Weatherford (Carmen) of Chuluota FL, and Allan Weatherford (Jillian) of The Woodlands, TX. Ed was also blessed with eight grandchildren, one great grandchild, and close, lifelong friends he cherished. Ed was preceded in death by his brother William Weatherford, of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Born on October 26, 1929, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Ed's character was forged in the Great Depression. To help support his family, Ed started fulltime work at age 12, and enlisted in the military at age 17. While honorably serving in the U.S. Air Force, he met his future wife, Neva Mae Wilson, in Roswell, New Mexico. Ed and Neva were married in 1951, and their love for each other was a beacon for all who crossed their path and the bedrock of the entire Weatherford family.

Ed's Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, May 10th at 10 AM, at the Collison Family Funeral Home, 335 East State Road 434, Longwood, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be submitted to the Paralyzed Veterans of America Organization in Ed's name. Ed suffered in his later years from paralysis resulting from a service-related injury.

Not sure what to say?

Dear Allan, My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. I never met your Dad, but heard he was a wonderful husband and father. He must have been very special to have raised a son like you. May he rest in peace.

Dearest Weatherfords All,

Oh, the many fine memories I have of Ed, dear friend for so very many years.---His smile, his quiet kind and sweet way, his loyalty to friends, his patience despite his serious health trials, his love and devotion to family, his wonderful sense of humor --- to mention only a few of his many attributes.

I'm so very sorry he's gone.

He will be sorely missed.

My deepest sympathy to you all dear friends.

Love,

I have been lucky enough in my life to know a wonderful man, Mr. Ed Weatherford. When I met the Weatherfords I knew I had met a very special family. I was fortunate enough to have married a man who was extremely close to a family that always welcomed new members to the clan. I have always felt part of the family and it was because Ed and Neva treated me that way. Ed always had a kind word for me and made me feel like I was one of his own. I will miss him so much and his witty stories and...

Ed Weatherford, "Papa" as he was affectionately called by many, will be remembered for his wit, charm and story telling. He was a great man who touched many lives and will continue to do so through his energy that surrounds us all. My deepest condolences are with all of the Weatherford family.

Dear Allan, my sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your dad. Through working for you over the years, I can remember our conversations about your love for your family and how close you were to them. Especially the admiration you had for your dad. Your parents instilled in you the traits to become the kind and loving man you are today. Also the drive to succeed. I can only imagine how proud your father was to watch you go up, up, up --- a parents' dream for their child. When I met...

My deepest sympathies to the Weatherford family for their loss. You are a wonderful, loving family and I pray that your memories sustain you during this healing time.
