Chester "Chet" Lovgren was born on February 5, 1929, in Parlier, CA, and was raised in Sanger, CA by the late Mildred and Chester A. Lovgren. He entered into heaven at age 89, on Sunday, September 23, 2018. Chet attended Sanger High School and was involved in sports and played the trombone in the band. He graduated in 1946, and joined the United States Marine Corp in 1948. He became part of the Marine Corp Marching Band playing his trombone and traveled to many cities for four years. After serving his country, Chet returned to Sanger to raise his family. Chet then became a deputy with the Fresno County Sheriff's Department in 1959. He spent the next 27 years with the Sheriff's Department serving in the Shaver Lake area and in Fresno. He retired as captain in 1986. Clovis, CA then became home to Chet as he enjoyed his many grandkids, family, and friends. His passion for music continued into retirement as he joined many community bands playing his trombone. Chet was a member of the Fresno and Clovis community bands, Swinging Valley Vets, and the Sounds of Freedom Band where he met many new friends. Chet was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lovgren. Chet is survived by his wife, Molly Lovgren; sons, Jim Lovgren and wife Rose, and Keith Lovgren and wife Monica; and daughter, Lori Barcus and husband Brad. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District, 808 4th St., Clovis, CA, on Friday, October 19, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to AUSA Sounds of Freedom Band, 2380 Huston Ave., Clovis, CA 93611.
