I first met Claire when she was 11. She was a skinny kid, with flaming long red hair, freckles and a magnificent confidence; a young girl who took life on with warmth and excitement. My favourite 'Claire story' was told by my daughter, a good friend of Claire's. They were on their way to (high) school and running late. Claire saw a tortoise lying unmoving on the road ahead which heavy with school traffic. The car stopped, Claire got out and heedless of the time and vehicles, got a spade out...
