Clarence “Paw Paw Alvin” Lawson, 72, of Vinton left this life for a better place


Wednesday, September 4, 2019.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Edna Walker Lawson; and his parents-in-law J.T. and Marion Bowles.


 Paw Paw Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  Paw Paw was a master plumber as well as a jack-of-all-trades.  There wasn’t anything that he couldn’t build, repair or replace.  He loved to fish, dance and laugh doing all that he could for his family and friends.


Alvin proudly served his country during the Bay of Pigs in Cuba, as an Army paratrooper.


He worked for Bowles Plumbing and Heating for over 30 years. He  then went to work for Carilion.


Alvin is survived by the love of his life for 52 years, Katherine Bowles Lawson; daughters, Lisa Lawson Atkinson and husband, Mark, and Lori Hall; three grandsons, Chase Austin, Aaron Atkinson and Hunter Hall; and beloved great-granddaughter, Laylah Austin; great-grandson Liam Austin.  He also leaves behind his brother, Barry, “Chip” Lawson and wife, Judy; sisters-in-law, Patricia Williams, and husband, Ronnie, Vickie Carr and husband, Ricky, Wanda Wills and husband Steve and Connie Bowles as well as nieces and nephews He is also survived by his former son-in-law, Eddie Hall.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Veteran’s Palliative Care Unit and the staff at Berkshire Nursing home for their compassionate care during his extended illness.  A Celebration of Life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. on Saturday September 28, 2019.

Paw Paw I Was lucky enough to meet you up on the mountain with Lisa. I know you were loved very much and will be missed. Prayers for all the family.

I used to work with alvin at carilion,he took me fishing a few times at his dock at the lake.i didnt know he had passed he was a good man, he was good to me .my condolences to the family

We shall miss his sweet laugh, and seeing him, and his " pups" in the hallway. We won't forget you, Mr. Alvin. Love to Kathy, and so grateful for her devotion to Alvin, and tenderness to our parents.

It has been an honor to know Alvin through Mark and Lisa. He was one of the sweetest men I have ever had the pleasure to know. He will truly be missed!

Daddy Alvin was a wonderful kind man, And would do anything to help you. He was a very hard working family man. My family had the privilege of being in their home 5 days a week for years and years. We remember you Alvin as you were then. Love , Janice ,Shelly and Morgan
