Cory-Davis-Obituary

Cory Davis

Obituary

Cory Davis played baseball in high school and followed his family into the mines.

The 20-year-old from Dawes, W.Va., worked with his father, Tommy Davis, and cousin Timmy Davis Jr. at a surface mine, but all three were laid off in the past two years. And all three ended up at Massey.

Cory Davis loved the outdoors and would often spend his weekends at a family camp on a mountaintop.

"We'd just run around, build a fire, ride four-wheelers," Timmy Davis Jr. said. "Our life was kind of boring. We're kind of hill folks. We stay up on the mountain."

Cory Davis was one of 29 miners killed by a huge explosion April 5, 2010 in an underground coal mine owned by Massey Energy Co. in West Virginia - the worst U.S. mining disaster since 1970.

Not sure what to say?

Cory, I will never forget you. You are about the best young man I've ever known. I was so lucky to be able to watch you play T-Ball, minor league & little league baseball. You were such a great baseball player. My love for you will live on forever. I think about you all the time, wishing that was all a bad dream and you were still here.

Cory' I know your in a better place, but you are truely missed down here. We attended school together from grade school and on. I'm so sorry for your family's lose. Even though it seems your gone you never truely are. You are very missed. I never thought I'd ever hear the day when people I grew up with as a child are falling around me. Life is truely precious, and you lived hard, laughed long, and loved the people around you with all your heart. R.I.P. Cory *Blue eyes* Davis
