Not sure what to say?

Dear Patti and Family, Dail was a delightful but highly professional, knowledgeable colleague with whom I worked on several interagency task forces and working groups--Clean Water Action Plan, Coastal America, The Ocean Action Plan, and various ocean policy and management deliberations. He was knowledgeable, quick to grasp potential implications, and great at clearly communicating his viewpoint and positions on whatever we discussed. I admired him, enjoyed working with him, relied on his...

Dear Patti and family:
I just heard of the sad loss of Dail and it sent chills down my back. It also brought back happy memories of our office in the old Marine lab at UCSB, scuba diving and collecting, dinners together (some very spicy), playing with your two Keeshunds, and taking care of them when you were away. My condolences and best wishes.

Dear Patti, Bonnie and family - I am very sorry about losing Dail. As you know, we go back a long way, to graduate school at UCSB, and we have all kept up with each other the years, both in Virginia and California. Please accept my sincere condolences and sympathy. I know these are extremely tough times, but I am with you all the way. Much love, Greg

Dear Patti, You and Bonnie have my deepest sympathies and condolences. Dail was my best boss, my best friend in NOAA and my mentor. I will never forget him and all that he did for me. Please let me know if I can do anything for you. I will think about him often.

Dear Dail's Family,
On behalf of the members of the Estuarine Research Federation, please accept our heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Dail was an active and valued member of our scientific community. He participated by generously giving his knowledge and time and by recruiting NMFS' resources and staff's involvement in our publications and conferences. Dail was an eloquent and outspoken advocate for good science and for the good management of our common property resources – the...
