Groton - Daniel J. "Bud" Fenton, 88, passed away on March 2, 2013, at New London Rehab and Care of Waterford.

He was born in New London, on March 4, 1924, the son of the late Timothy Fenton and Dorothy (Lima) Fenton. He graduated from Robert E. Fitch Senior High School in Groton in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Company K 18th infantry Regiment in Normandy and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He married Geraldine Hume on July 11, 1953, at St. Mary Church in New London.

Mr. Fenton worked at Electric Boat in Groton, as an electrician from 1952 and retiring in 1986.

During retirement, he enjoyed building stone walls at his home and for many friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He is survived by his wife, Gerry, and their five children, Robin Gibson of Oakdale, Mike and wife, Kathy, of Waterford, Heidi Fenton of Gales Ferry, Scott and wife, Joann, of Ledyard, and Bambi Franciosi of Westerly; eight grandchildren, D.J. Gibson, Kara Gibson, Erin Gibson, Michael Fenton, Daniel Fenton, Scott Fenton, Joseph Fenton, John Michael Franciosi; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Timothy Fenton of Las Vegas, Nev.

He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Aubin, and brothers, Paul Fenton and Edward Fenton.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06037.

The family would like to thank the staff at New London Rehab and Care of Waterford for the care and compassion given to Daniel "Bud" Fenton.

Entombment will be private at St. Mary's Mausoleum. There are no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are being coordinated by Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
