Daniel Whaler was born on April 1st, 1930 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Walter Canutch and Jeananna (Pritchett) Whaler. Daniel was raised with four brothers and two sisters. He was born a cowboy at heart, and lived his life in the typical cowboy fashion, outdoors, working hard, surrounded by cattle, and relaxing at a rodeo and doing some serious calf roping. Daniel also worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction business. Any time he had to himself was spent with those he loved, his family, at the river with a fishing pole in his hand. This in turn, was where he would be found, leaning on a tree, sound asleep with his fishing pole bobbing in the water. Daniel was proud of his Cherokee heritage, and made every effort to make sure his children and grandchildren grew up to be proud of their heritage, and to learn the Cherokee way and language. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, and he never lost sight of taking each day, and enjoying life to its fullest. He loved being surrounded by his family to share a laugh and a meal. He was always proud of the wonderful accomplishments of his grand and greatgrandchildren. Daniel was a Christian by faith, so when he had worked his last, the Lord took this faithful servant home on January 28th, 2016 at his home, surrounded by those he loved best. Daniel was 85 years old.
Daniel is preceded in death by his Mom and Dad, his brothers, Henry Whaler, Dan Whaler, Levi Whaler, and Watie Whaler, and his sisters, Jeanie Whaler and Sarah Jane Snell.
Those left to carry on his legacy include his four children, Daniel Whaler of Proctor, OK, Lana Neighberg and husband Mike of Norfolk, VA, Mary Lee Manly and husband Ronnie of Lamar, CO, and Patricia McBroom also of Lamar, CO. He leaves his companion Connie Robison, and ten wonderful grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
