Conkle Funeral Home, Avon Chapel - Avon Obituary

Darrell Dean McElravy

86, of Avon passed away July 30, 2023 at his home.  He was born October 10, 1936 in Elnora, Indiana the son of Miles and Neenah McElravy.  In 1956 Darrell married his high school sweetheart Nancy Core.

After farming 3 years he started work at Public Service Indiana at Edwardsport as a “Station Helper”.  He took 3 ISC courses and moved up the line from Edwardsport to Noblesville, to New Albany, to Princeton, to Cayuga, to PSI’s GHQ in Plainfield, (now Duke Energy) as VP of Power Production.  He got early retirement after 32 dedicated years of service.

He and Nancy enjoyed many years traveling in their motorhome where they visited 49 states of the United States and all the provinces of Canada.  Didn’t make it to Hawaii, but got to Alaska twice.  We had a houseboat in Alabama and Kentucky for a few years.  We sold our home in Prestwick and moved to Cape Coral, Florida.  After 10 fun years they moved back to Indiana.  Later they bought a doublewide in LaBelle, Florida.  They were snowbirds for about 4 years. He and Nancy are members of Kingsway Christian Church in Avon.

Darrell is survived by his wife Nancy McElravy, children, Marcia (Jim) McCullough, Carmen (Richard) Raths, James (Mary) McElravy and Aaron (Sheila) McElravy, 5 grandchildren, Megan, Kailyn, Bradford, Jeremy, and Jessica.  Also 2 adorable great granddaughters, Harper and Wren, a sister, Louise Nebergall.  He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Gordon McElravy and Don McElravy.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday August 4, 2023 at Conkle Funeral Home, Avon Chapel.  The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery Martinsville, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wheeler Mission.

Not sure what to say?

Darrell McElravy was well-thought of by me and many others who were employees of PSI, then Cinergy, and finally (when I retired) Duke Energy. I was able to get on at Gibson Station from Edwardsport after interviewing with him. He was good-humored and an effective manager. My wife, Brenda (Spanger) Roark remembers Marcia as a classmate of her younger sister, Debbie, while at Sandborn Elementary. We send our sincere condolences and prayers to all your family as Darrell´s loss is sure to be...

Hi Nancy,

We are sorry for yours and everyone's lose. We kept saying we need to get together and we never have. He will be missed by bunches of folks. We know where he's at and looking forward to seeing him in heaven. We are going to try to get out there tomorrow but not sure yet. I have several health things going on so it is day to day for me. We miss you and want to give you a hug. If we don't get there Friday we'll get there soon. We love you bunches.
Rick and Debbie

Nancy, we loved Darrell! We enjoyed so much the times we spent with the two of you in our small group, going out to eat, our visit with you in Florida, and Sunday services sitting near you. We wish we could be there Friday, but will be in Canada. We will think of you and Darrell as we see God’s majesty there. Praying for you, Dear Friend.
Much love. Rick and Marilyn Sudsberry
