Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory - Crystal Lake Obituary

David E. Gorski, 30, of Libertyville, IL., formerly of Crystal Lake, IL passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2016. He was born July 31, 1986 in Evanston, IL to James "Jay" and Dolores (nee Sherwood) Gorski.

David was a soft-spoken, kindhearted, and genuine soul. Though he was a man of few words, he was described as a man who “led by his actions and not his words.” David had vast circle of friends and teammates throughout his life. They have spoken so kindly of how great a friend he was to them. His understated sense of humor was the foundation of many of their friendships.

David “Sweet Dave” was an avid softball player and baseball fan. He was especially fond of the Chicago White Sox and the Blackhawks. David was a graduate of Marian Central Catholic High School, McHenry County College, Northern Illinois University, and the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.  He was employed by Medline Industries in Mundelein, IL.

David will be deeply missed by his loving parents; his sisters, Carolyn and Rachel; his aunts and uncles,  William Sherwood, Jean (Reid) Anderson, John (Beth) Sherwood, Terry Sherwood (Larry Edmonds), Tim (Julie) Sherwood, Carol (Tim) Kane, Kim Sherwood, Greg (Becky) Gorski, John (Laura) Gorski, and Tony (Gail) Sliwa; cousins, Jennifer (Curt) Biron, Robert (Jessica) Gorski, Michael and Anna Gorski, and Daniel and Stephen Sliwa, Greg and Renee Anderson, Bridget, Emmett, and Kevin Kane, Ryan (Liz) Sherwood, Todd (Krissy) Sherwood, Andrew (Calliemae) Sherwood, Meghan, Jack, Maggie, Ann, Marley and Michael Sherwood, Katie (Jesse) Cooper, and Samantha (Casey) Anderson. David is also survived by Mary Sherwood and members of the Ringness, Schnepf, Blake, and Perkins families.

David is preceded in death by his grandparents Edwin and Helen Gorski and John L. "Jack" and Dolores Sherwood.

Memorial visitation will be Monday, January 2, 2017, from 2 to 7PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake, IL. Visitation will resume on Tuesday January 3 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 410 North First St., Cary, IL at 9:30am.  The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30am. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Crystal Lake Food Pantry Building Fund or Marian Central Catholic High School, Woodstock, IL.  Please consider the needs of the family in this difficult time.

Not sure what to say?

"No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that rock I´m clinging" ~A Shaker hymn

Dolores, Jay, Carolyn and Rachel we are praying for you. Please remind yourselves of this prayer:

We do our best to find the positive in each day, and we do. We spend time soul searching each week to keep the energy flowing. Even in the midst of so much uncertainty and loss, there is joy in each day. In the darkest hours there is light, even if it is only the slightest glimmer at times, it is there. We will stay inspired, we will keep fighting the good fight and we will keep...

Dolores and Jay, Carolyn and Rachel
We continually have you in our prayers. We are looking forward to sharing in the celebration of mass on the 21st.

Dear Dolores, Jay and family,
Our hearts are heavy with sadness over this news.
Praying for God's good graces to be bestowed upon each of you--along with strength and fortitude that only He can provide. If you need anything, we are here for you.

Dolores, sending you and your family my love and prayers during this difficult time. So very sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your great loss and my prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends. I only knew Dave through softball for a couple years, but he was a great man and will not be soon forgotten.
