“Diamond” Dave McManus died early Sunday morning surrounded by his family. He was forty years old. Dave courageously battled a rare protein disorder known as Amyloidosis. Dave was a sweet, considerate person whose strength was apparent to those who knew him. Born during a blizzard on February 9, 1969 at Symmes Hospital, in Arlington, he was the son of the late Richard G. and Carole R. (Carlson) McManus and the second of fraternal twins. It was a complicated delivery that foreshadowed a rather complicated life. Dave was a dedicated employee of Royal Too Cleaners, Booktech and most recently Crosby’s Marketplace. He was a loyal friend to many. Dave loved camping and was particularly proud of his winter adventures. He will also be remembered for his love of NASCAR, muscle cars, going to rock concerts and all things green. Dave is the devoted brother of Donna Taylor of FL, Michele G. Kanach of Wilmington, Richard G. McManus of Andover, Marilyn E. Godbout of VA, Susan J. Furtado of Winchendon, his fraternal twin Carole J. McManus of Reading and Jeffrey McManus of Methuen. He is also survived by three uncles, two aunts, six nieces, five nephews, two great nieces, three great nephews, twelve cousins and eleven second cousins. Visiting hours will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Saturday October 24 from 4-8 pm. A remembrance will be held at the American Legion Hall 37 Ash St. Reading on Sunday October 25 at 1:00 pm followed by a Rockin’ celebration of Dave’s life. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Dave’s memory to the Amyloid Treatment and Research Program 72 East Concord St. Boston MA 02118-2526. Not sure what to say?

Losing a sibling means a part of your past is gone, but never forgotten. Fleeting memories keep you connected always to that special bond of brotherhood and sisterhood. No one knows or loves you in the same way, nor should they. That is a unique relationship that we can cherish among the few lucky "sibs". May you all smile when you think of David and know how lucky you are to have each other.

With love,
Christine Stone Goulding

I knew Dave through our earlier days of winter camping and partying. Always enjoyed his company. He was fun to be with. He will certainly be missed. I am very sorry to hear of his passing.

Sincerely,

Mark Dawson.

Take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel to watch over you.

Words, however kind,
can't mend your heartache:
but those who care and
share your loss wish you
comfort and peace of mind.
May you all find strength
in the love of family
and in the warm embrace
of friends.
With Love & Sympathy,

David McManus October 18, 2009

A brother is very special
He’s there when you’re in need
Willing to lend a hand
Trying to do the best he can
(Helping you move and
David being nearby when you needed him)

He’s a protector full of love
Sometimes he’ll tease you too
When things get serious
He’s always looking out for you
(David was there if his sisters needed him)
