I am so sorry to just learn about the passing of Mr. Nelson. I was a student of Mr. Nelson in what I believe was his first year as a teacher in the 1974-75 school year at Jacksonville Heights.

Of course, I never knew Mr. Nelson on a personal level, but I always reflect on him as being my favorite teacher. In fact, if a web site requires a 'secret' question for security purposes, I have always listed Mr. Nelson as the answer to the question...."who was your favorite teacher?". The fact that I still think about him after 45 years is a clear sign of the affect he had on his students. I'm also pretty certain I was the teacher's pet that year...and if I wasn't...Mr. Nelson at least left me with the impression that I was.

Another distinct memory I have of Mr. Nelson is the orange 1970's conversion van he had with the Yosemite Sam mud flaps on the rear tires. I still think of him when I see those same mud flaps, which is on very rare occasion.

My deepest sympathies to his family. Mr. Nelson was a great teacher and I hope many of his past students remember him as fondly as I have.

Gosh, am so glad I got to see David at Forrest's 50th High School Reunion in April, as I hadn't seen him since June of 1971. In fact, it was while the guys were taking the Men's photo at the Reunion, that I looked down and realized it was David in front of me and vice versa. We had such a great time reminiscing our lives from so many years ago.

David was such a pleasure to know, with his infectious smile & joyful personality. Back during our days at FJC together, he & I played tennis at Oak Hill courts & elsewhere, and yes, he was an excellent & honorable player. And I'll always remember riding in his sonorous-sounding TR-4 to classes & the courts. How fun.

My condolences & prayers to the family, as David will be missed by all.

Dave will be missed by the neighbors of Ortega Farms Blvd. He was a good neighbor and friend always greeting with a "Hello Neighbor" while on his golf cart or lawnmower.

He lived his life to the fullest traveling the world and in the RV the United States; Lorraine and Daisy then Rusty by his side. He was an adventurous soul on a quest to learn something new or to validate the things he had already learned.

You will be missed!

What a sad day in learning of the passing of David. He was one of the special ones who kept our Forrest High School friendships alive at all of our reunions over the past 50 years since graduation. He will be remembered and missed.

David and I go back over 40 years. We were teammates and competitors in tennis for years. He always had a strong left hand. I count him as a good friend even though I had not seen him for a long while. We met playing touch football on Sunday afternoons at a local elementary school in 1978. Where I also met my wife to be. He was a young teacher, very active and fun to be around. We discovered we both loved tennis and played together and against each other for years at Boone Park, for many teams. You can tell a lot about a person by how he handles losses and handle wins. He always handled both with class. He was always proud to take students to Cape Canaveral for shuttle launches etc.. He was a teacher that modern teachers could take a real lesson from. I just heard about his passing while playing tennis at Boone Park with other friends of his. Life is a little emptier due to his passing. To my friend Dave.....GO GATORS !!!
