David was my ex-boyfriend from 1985 to about 1994. Despite the ups and downs that all couples experience, I never forgot that he had served our country in Viet Nam and in many ways, was a product of that experience. He went right straight from high school to the front lines of combat in Viet Nam. Despite our parting in 1994, he called me every Thanksgiving and Christmas. I am devastated by the loss but know that he is safe in God's arms in Heaven. He lived life to its fullest. I only...

I knew and worked with David at the VA in New Orleans for 15 years, the length of time I have been employed as a psychologist at the medical center. I remember many years ago when he used to put out a literary magazine for the vietnam veterans. He always loved to write. He was a very thoughtful and generous man, always reaching out to help others. He spoke often of his love for his daughter, Candy, who I know will miss him as we at the VA will.

David was a good friend for many years. When I was about to leave for military duty he gave me his New Testament, which he carried all through Vietnam. He came home safe and wanted me to do the same. When I remembered to put it in the cargo pocket of my uniform, I did not get a scratch. When I forgot to move it to the uniform I was wearing, I was injured. I still came home in one piece.
