“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness" Galatians 5:22 ESV. David is one of the rare people who embodied each of these virtues. A caring son, loving sibling, dedicated father, fun uncle, generous friend, hard working colleague, and active community member, you could often find him quietly helping in the background, likely dressed in a loud Hawaiian shirt. He was gentle and kind, the sort of person that could be easily overlooked or taken for granted but whose absence leaves an irreplaceable hole in the heart of everyone who knew him.
David, alias Rainbow the Clown, loved making people smile. Goofy and fun-loving, he had an affinity for cheesy jokes and silly Tik-tok videos. You had to be careful not to let him get an embarrassing photo of you because there was a good chance that next Christmas you’d be receiving a mug with that photo on it. He also loved making people scream. Part of the Scream Team, the highlight of his year was working at the Forest of Screams, where he received the honor of “Horror Icon.”
He also had a creative side. He wrote children’s books, which his father John would illustrate. His passion for cooking came out in the cookbook he authored, the unique treats he’d give during the holiday, and the daily dishes he creatively concocted from discounted groceries for his parents. During the holiday, he always had a crockpot of jam, sauce, or fruit butter going. His paintings also had a David-flair, sometimes using old saws as canvases. His greatest masterpiece was the Falcon station wagon he painted gold when he was five, much to his parents' surprise.
Although David always worked long hours and was the primary caregiver for his parents, he always made time to give back to his community. He would use his vacation and holiday time to serve on the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.), the Cleveland Auxiliary police, the Cuyahoga County Fair Police Department, and as a Boy Scout troop leader.
On December 18th, 2023, David joined his baby brother Jeremiah in Heaven. The loved ones he has left behind will remember him as endlessly selfless and authentically himself. We hope his life serves as an inspiration to us all to live with a little more kindness and laughter.
