David Pichard Obituary

David Williamson Pichard

David Williamson Pichard, 80, of Tallahassee, passed away on June 9th in his home in Tallahassee, Florida, surrounded by his family. He was a much loved father, grandfather, and husband, and an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

David was born on December 3, 1935 to Alphonse and Ruth Pichard. The youngest of six children, he grew up on his family's property on Park Avenue, spending summers at the family cottage in Lanark. David quickly developed a love of the sea: fishing, skiing, and swimming in the waters of Apalachicola Bay throughout his life.

David graduated from Leon High School in 1953. He then enrolled in college, serving in the Naval Reserves. He then proudly served two years active duty in the Navy, stationed in Naples, Italy. Upon his honorable discharge, he completed a BS in Business and Insurance at Florida State University. After marrying his wife Lynette, David worked for the Florida State Division of Insurance and Commonwealth Corporation before opening his own agency in 1970. Pichard Insurance Agency offered David the opportunity to do what he loved most: helping people protect their assets and loved ones. His success in the agency, still actively running after 45 years, came from his personal care of clients, treating them as friends and family members.

David served in leadership roles in the insurance industry and throughout his life. He served on the board of directors and as an officer of the North Florida Safety Council. He was also actively involved in the Independent Insurance Agents of Tallahassee and was a founding member and first chair in the Shell Point Beach Conch Ensemble.

Actively involved in Fellowship Baptist Church, David served as a deacon, on numerous committees, and as chief bottle washer for most social activities. Deeply committed to the church's prison ministry, David drove the church van every Sunday morning and led the Thursday night Bible study at the Tallahassee Work Release Center for over 20 years, touching many lives, mentoring many who transitioned successfully into productive business owners and hard-working members of society.

David was preceded in death by his brothers Clarence, Marion, Gordon, Kenneth, and sister Francis Hammond and his parents Alphonse and Ruth (Jones) Pichard. David is survived by his devoted wife Lynette, his four children Abbie Hodge (Paul), Leisa Pichard, Laura Pichard-Murphy (Dave), and David W. Pichard II (Ellyse Mazzi), five grandchildren Patrick and Shannon Hodge, Carter Richeson, and Eli and Emma Murphy, nephew Brent Pichard, niece Gaye Washington, special friend Andre Brown, and many great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Culley's, Riggins Road on Sunday June 12, 2016 from 6pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be Monday June 13, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church on North Monroe at 2pm with graveside services at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations may be made in David's honor to the Fellowship Hall Building Fund or Prison Ministry Trust of Fellowship Baptist Church, 3705 N Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL, 32303.

Sending condolences to Lynette and family. I was very sorry to learn of David's loss. David was always a good friend -- he was like a father for many years to my sister, Mary Clare after Gorden's death. I know he will be really missed by many.

We are sorry to hear of David's passing. We knew him for several decades as a kind, gentle and generous man. Professionally, David always exhibited the best qualities one could expect toward his customers and employees. As a result, he generated great loyalty from everyone who dealt with him. He was beloved by all and will be sorely missed .

Dear Family
Thank you for sharing your wonderful father with us. He was our insurance agent for the past 30+ years, but he was also a good friend. He never came by to see us that he didn't bring some little gift , card, uplifting story, etc. We especially loved the honey. He always did what was best for us and we so appreciated his honesty & integrity. He will be missed, but never forgotten. May memories of this kind man sustain you in your grief.

David fulfilled the Pichard family's reputation for dedication and sacrifice in everything he did. Tallahassee has lost a wonderful Christian family man. I pray for the Lord's comfort and care of his family in their grief. May they be sustained by their knowledge of his place now face to face with the Lord. David was my insurance agent and he watched over me like a guardian angel. Thank you and may his family be blessed.

My deepest sympathy on the passing of David. He was such a wonderful man and the best boss I ever had. He was fair, kind and funny. I'll miss him so much. The world is a darker place without him.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

What a great Christian man! David was the real thing: a Christian who truly walked the walk. He touched so many, both high and low in society. He never forgot the prisoners whom we are told to care for but so many do not. He chose Lynette as a partner in his journey and could not have picked better. Because he allowed God to lead him, he was able to lead others.
We are so grateful to David and just to know him has been a privilege.
Sincerely,
Gil and Barbara Starleigh
