Not sure what to say?

Absolutely one of my favorite professors at Tech. I actually called him by his full name, Dean Carter, through my time in his class. Within the first month, he said "Miss O'Donnell, why are you saying my full name?" I told him because he was the Dean of the Art Department. He said " Miss O'Donnell, I thank you for the promotion, but I am not yet the Dean of this college. You are, however, my favorite student as of today". He gave me a book at the end of the semester and...

Professor Dean Carter was a character in his own right. Some of the funniest things I ever heard came from his mouth. He was a true talent and a fabulous professor!!! His classes were so informative and always filled with humor! When I think of earning my Art Degree at Tech I will always think of his happy face greeting us at the studio. He will be missed!

Dear Clem & family,

Thanks for the call informing us of the passing of your dear dad. We will miss seeing him on our trips to Blacksburg. Dean was a unique individual with a very fine sense of humor. He had a tremendous influence on our daughter's education at Virginia Tech. She continues to tell us funny stories about his classes. His brilliance in the classroom was very apparent to all who came in contact with him, but his humanity is what will be his lasting...

Mrs. Carter,
As an art minor at Tech ('83), I never had more fun or felt more welcome in class than I did with dear, sweet Professor Carter. He was a joy and a delight and a very gracious man. I am sorry for your loss and celebrate his life with you.

Dear Carters- our thoughts and prayers are with all of you I this time of loss.

I can't begin to explain what your friendship and support to Karl has meant to us.

May God ease your pain and loss now and in the weeks and months to come.

Dear Tom

I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I will be praying for you and your family.

Dean has always been one of my favorite people. He lit up a room when he entered it and was one of the most fun people to be around.

I will never forget the lovely party that Dean and Rosena had for Charles and me before we were married. Dean meant a great deal to my parents, Huey and Mary Tom Long. He made such a beautiful cross with thorns that my mother decorated at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church for years on Easter Sunday.

I know he impacted so many artists and...

When I worked in the EE Department in Patton Hall, I would sit in on Professor Carter's art history classes. He was a passionate, interesting professor. He will live on through his art.

Please accept our deepest sympathy for the loss of a very loved husband, father and grandfather. Please know we will continue to keep you all in our thoughts and prayers
