Gaffney, South Carolina
Gaffney, S.C. - Howard Dean Higgins, 81, of 304 Sycamore Street, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at Mary Black Health System- Gaffney.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Mary Frances Scruggs Higgins and son of the late Arthur Higgins and Grace Fowler Higgins. He retired from construction and Southside Baptist Church, was a member of the S.C. National Guards and was of the Christian faith. He enjoyed football, horse racing and formerly raised homing pigeons.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Higgins and James Higgins and wife, Angie, both of Gaffney; a granddaughter, Erica Higgins Phillips and husband, Tim, of Forest City, N.C.; two sisters, Miriam Williams of Elberton, Ga. and Kay Williams of Blacksburg. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a son, David Higgins, three brothers, Franklin Higgins, Ricky Higgins and Larry Higgins and two sisters, Doris Hunt and Vivian Hayes.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Oakland Cemetery with Dr. Wofford Caughman officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
