Not sure what to say?

Derek, with phone, Seattle Times, 1995.

Just heard about this Tragedy. Derek shaped so much of my perspective on being alive and how to treat other people. Derek was incredible at enjoying the essence of so many things most people wouldn't even notice. Derek lifted our standard as a human lot and i'm gut-punched trying to imagine how this loss hit his family. Thank you, Derek, for shaping my outlook, my approach to teaching (i just tried to be like you) and an array of super-awesome memories of treasured moments with you.

I can't believe that it's been a year since we lost you, DB. I've been thinking about your calm but hilarious presence, and that the world is missing a really wonderful person. All the best to your family; they're often in my thoughts.

I just heard about Derek's passing the other day. My heart was shattered into a million pieces. Derek was a man of honor, strength and courage. I was not fortunate enough to be a good friend to Derek, but I was blessed to be in his presence for several years. Derek's quite leadership made me a better manager, a better father and a better husband. Rest in Peace my friend. Dan

Dear Mary Jane,
I am so sad at this news. I am sending you and your family love and light and prayers. May your children grow big and strong, filled with all the love Derek gave to them.

Jane, We are so sorry to hear about Derek. Our thoughts, prayers and all our love is being sent to you, the boys and the rest of your family. All our love, Erin & Greg Wicks

Jane, I'm so sorry to hear about Derek. Everywhere he went, he brought that infectious grin.

Dear Blaylock family,

I had never met Derek, but only just met his sons this year. My deepest condolences to Jane, the boys, and his entire family. You are in my prayers, as well as the prayers of the St. Als community. May you find strength in your faith, family and friends during this most difficult time.

Dear Blaylock Family,
I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Derek at the BBHS Curriculum Night. Although we haven't met, please know you still are in our heart and prayers during this difficult time. Fondly, The Dreis Family

It has been several years since I worked with Derek at the Times but he was one of my favorite people. He never failed to put a smile on my face and his enthusiasm was infectious. My deepest condolences to your family, thank you for sharing him with the rest of us, he's touched us all in some way. My best to you Jane and your sons.
