Donald Lowenberg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 7, 2018.
Donald (Don) Hugo Lowenberg, 88 of Hot Springs lived life to the fullest. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. His smile filled the room and everyone who knew him was blessed by his heart. Don passed away peacefully on April 5, 2018.
Don is survived by his four daughters, Jane Lowenberg of Powder Springs, GA; Carol Lowenberg of Onalaska, WI; Nancy Lowenberg of Augusta, GA; and Martha (Eduardo) Gil of Sugar Grove, IL.; his sister, Orien Lowenberg of Donnellson, IA; his grandchildren, Megan Gil and Alexander Gil of Sugar Grove, IL.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Florence Hartzler, of 45 years; his sisters, Ruby Lowenberg, Ruth Lowenberg, Maurine Krebil, Iola Spohnheimer; and his second wife, Berenice Schamp, of 10 years.
Don was born on September 24, 1929, in Donnellson, IA, to Hugo and Matilda Lowenberg. Don was the youngest of 6 children. Don grew up a hard worker, who loved working on his family farm in Donnellson, IA. He is a proud graduate of Donnellson High School's Class of 1947.
Don's love for farming grew with him. In 1955, he received his Bachelors in Science in Agronomy from Iowa State University. Don was a dedicated agronomist. He worked for Pfister's Associated Growers (PAG), later acquired by Cargill Seeds, from 1955 until his retirement in 1992. His work led him to live in Carrollton, MO, Cutler Ridge, FL, and Aurora, IL.
In 1956, he married Florence Hartzler of Pulaski, Iowa and together they had 4 lovely daughters, Jane, Carol, Nancy and Martha.
In 1992, Don and Flo moved to Hot Springs, AR, and joined the Oaklawn United Methodist Church, shortly afterwards. He assisted the Church for several years as the financial secretary. Don enjoyed singing with the Choir, participating in several church groups, fishing, and wood working. Don was an avid golfer, stamp and coin collector.
After Flo's passing, Don married Bernice Schamp of Hot Springs, AR, who was also a member of the Oaklawn Church. Don & Bernice also participated in numerous Church activities until Bernice's death in 2014.
