Donald Jay Mabry was born on February 14, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan and passed away on November 3, 2025 in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 87.
He was the son of Jay D. Mabry and Mary Carney Mabry. After his father's passing in 1948 Don and his family moved from Atlanta, Georgia to Los Angeles, California.
He graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1955 and later attended El Camino College, at the same time he was apprenticing in an auto upholstery shop. He was soon hired full-time and his life in the car business began. Don went on to become Tire Manager and later Regional Manager for Rayco Tire Company in Los Angeles. In 1970 he with his then wife Carmelene Melanie Siani and three daughters relocated to Tucson, Arizona. Don worked for O'Rielly Chevrolet as Tire Manager and in New car sales. From there he moved on to become Fleet Manager and trusted Salesman for the Jim Click Automotive Group until he retired in 2012. Don had a reputation for knowing how to get a car deal closed. He was a lifelong car man.
In 1995, Don met Suzanne McLean. They shared life together traveling the world to locations including Australia, China, Cambodia, Canada, Thailand, Japan, New Zealand and all over Europe. When home, they enjoyed daily companionship, family celebrations, collecting art and getaways to vacation homes in Bisbee, Santa Fe and Silver City.
Don was an avid runner for most of his life. He completed many marathons including Tucson, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Boston. He also ran the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim. He and his friends would meet to run every Saturday at 5:30 AM rain or shine. It was a committed group of guys that remain close to this day. When age got in the way of running they began cycling. Don participated in multiple El Tour de Tucson events, rode with the Santa Fe Seniors On Bikes (SOBS) and traveled with his friends to Italy and other destinations for bicycling tours.
Don also enjoyed trout fishing, gardening and grilling for family. He was a lifelong college sports fan cheering for USC, Notre Dame and the University of Arizona.
Don is remembered with warmth by Carmelene Melanie Siani, mother of his 3 daughters as well as Suzanne's Daughter Hannah (Chris) and their children Miles and Jack.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Edward, long-time companion Suzanne McLean and his best dog buddy Jake.
Don is survived by his daughters Maryclaire (Dave) Rimron, Carol (Cameron) Schwimmer and Melanie (Scott) Wagner and by his grandchildren Avery and Grant Wagner and Natalie and Valerie Schwimmer.
