Donald Simpson was born in Moravia in the parish of Clarendon, Jamaica on May 13, 1918 to school teachers, James and Mabel (O'Brien) Simpson. He was the third of eight siblings, including sisters, Frieda, Thelma, and Kathleen; and brothers, Leo, Neville, Courtney Barrington and Arthur. Donald grew up in Craighead in the parish of Manchester, where his parents served as educators and administrators of the local mission school, and his father served as an itinerant preacher. In 1946, he married Cynthia Rattray of Montego Bay. The couple settled in Kingston, living and raising their family of five in the Mountain View and Harbour View communities. Donald worked for many years with Parchment Haberdashery, traveling the islands of the Caribbean as the company's representative. Later, he worked for the Hercules Agency before migrating to the United States in 1969. He was employed with Connecticut-based Baldwin Technology until his retirement in 1984 to Palm Coast, FL. Donald was man of strong faith and prayer. Along with his wife, he was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for 28 years. In addition, he attended local small-group Bible studies. In 2008, at the age of 90, Donald rededicated his life to the Lord, and was baptized in the Atlantic Ocean. Donald was master gardener and avid domino player. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking and he was a sports enthusiast. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia, with whom he shared an enduring marriage of 67 years. His legacy includes children, Donovan (Paula), Doreen, and Ian Garfield (Margaret); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Thelma and Arthur; lifelong friend, George Scott and his wife and faithful local friends, Leslie Strachan and Carlos Maldonado, their wives and many others. Friends may call on Friday, September 13, 2013, 4:00-8:00PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Rd. South, Flagler Beach, FL. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00AM at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 5400 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast, FL.
