I had the great fortune to study with Doris 35 years ago. We recently moved back to Louisville and I reconnected with Doris. She was a delightful lady and a fine musician. She was also a lot of fun. Rest in the Peace of the Lord dear lady.

I was not one of Doris' piano students, but I feel that I am one of her students of life. In the short time I knew Doris, we became very close and I cared for her as I would if she was a member of my family. That was the affect Doris had on many people. I will miss her greatly and think of her often. She even gave us comfort and wonderful memories of her passing as she as she lay in her hospital bed playing the piano with one hand and asking for a martini. Oh, how I will miss her.

Doris Bickel was not only an accomplished and gifted musician and teacher, she had a sparkling personality and a fabulous wit. I shall always remember our laughing so hard at a formal dinner party that we thought we may have to excuse ourselves. The uproar followed Doris' story of assisting Martha Graham when she appeared in Louisville at the Memorial Auditorium. Again, at her husband's, John Bickel's visitation, she made us all laugh at her description of their "dessert...
