Dorothy Joyce Book, 94, formerly of Albany, died Sunday January 11th at Skyline Adult Care in West Linn. Dorothy was born in Warren, Minnesota to Ansgar and Clara (Johnsen) Pedersen. She graduated from Southern California Bible College, now known as Vanguard University, in 1942 with a B.A. She was active in sports, music, and student body leadership. On July 19, 1942, Dorothy married R. Earl Book in Inglewood, California. She and her late husband pastored Albany First Assembly of God for 26-1/2 years, from January, 1950 until May, 1976. She was a credentialed minister of the Assemblies of God and worked alongside her late husband wherever they served. They pastored churches located in Albany, Applegate, Lorella, and were Associate Pastors in Klamath Falls, as well as in Anchorage, Alaska. Additionally, Dorothy helped in leading the Assemblies of God Pastors of Oregon for 11 years when Earl served as the Oregon District Superintendent of the Assemblies of God. She loved to read and traveled extensively with her late husband in ministry – across the street and around the world . . . Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, and New Zealand. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R. Earl Book, brothers Hubert and Roland, and sisters Viola and Rosalind. She is survived by her sons Hubert Book and wife, Sharon, of Vancouver, Washington (Note: remove and Sun City West, Arizona), Jim Book of Springfield, Missouri, and Steve Book of Grants Pass; daughter, Jeannette Gale and husband, Gordon, of West Linn; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Dee Book and Esther Turnbull and brother-in-law, Bill Turnbull. A memorial service will be at 2pm Monday January 26th at Albany First Assembly of God Church. Private interment will be at the Willamette Memorial Park.
